Maps are really great for many things in Minecraft, from finding your way back home from an adventure, to having a giant overhead view of your expansive base, to even making massive art to put on your walls!Â
Â
Although making a map is a bit more advanced, it can still be made fairly early in the game, especially if a player is more used to the game and its mechanics. Maps are really interesting and can be used to create art for bases and houses in the game in addition to being used for survival purposes.
Â
Where do I find a map in Creative Mode?
Maps can be found in the Miscellaneous section of the creative menu.
Â
What you need?
To craft a map in minecraft, you will need:
Â
Â
The first step to making a map is making a crafting table. The first step to making a crafting table is converting recently acquired logs into wooden planks.Â
To make wooden planks, simply place the logs that were collected into one of the slots in the survival inventory crafting table, as demonstrated below.
Once the logs are converted into wooden planks, you can then progress to making a crafting table. This guide explains more about how to make a crafting table.
Â
Next, you must find enough sugar cane. Maps take 8 pieces of paper, meaning for one map a player must collect 9 pieces of sugar cane.Â
Â
Sugar cane is easiest to collect if you have a sugar cane farm, but it can also be collected in almost any biome. It is found next to waterâit can be a lake, river or ocean. This is because sugar cane needs a block of water beside it to grow.
You can then use your sugar cane to make paper. To learn more about making paper, you can use this link!
Next, you must make a compass.Â
Â
Compasses require materials like iron and redstone, which mean they require mining at low levels of the world. Redstone is quite an abundant material, but it does need to be mined with an iron pickaxe.
Â
To make an iron pickaxe, use the crafting recipe below.Â

Â
Next, fill in the outside border with paper, filling every square apart from the very middle.
