Before turning professional, Hernandez competed on the amateur circuit as a mixed martial artist for years and held a record of 9 wins and 1 loss. He made his professional debut on June 25, 2010, against Trey Williams at West Coast FC 11.

In his debut showdown, Anthony Hernandez showed signs of a promising future combat sports fighter. He shut Williams’ lights up by knocking him out in the first round to secure a win and start his career with a victory. Hernandez fought in different mixed martial arts promotions and also reigned as the LFA middleweight champion, a title he won by defeating Brendan Allen and LFA 32 by a unanimous decision. He eventually joined the UFC, where he competes in the middleweight division.

Anthony Hernandez’s opponent at UFC 298, Roman Kopylov, has also been a part of over a dozen professional bouts. He made his professional debut on April 1, 2016, against Felipe Nsue, WCSA Combat Ring 18: X-Fight. He secured a unanimous decision victory to start his career and then gathered consecutive finishes.

Roman Kopylov competed in multiple fight promotions and ultimately made his way into the UFC. He competes in the middleweight division of the promotion. Both Kopylov and Hernandez will look to seize a convincing victory that can prove helpful for them in the division.
