Professional boxing is all set to host an exciting and high-octane event before signing off 2023 on a high. The ‘Day of Reckoning’ fight card is about to bring multiple heavyweight boxers together as part of exciting and thrilling boxing bouts on December 23, 2023, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. One of the biggest fights booked for the event is between heavyweight boxers Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker.
Deontay Wilder dropped his WBC heavyweight title after suffering a KO loss against Tyson Fury in 2020. At an opportunity to regain the title, Wilder again came up short and lost by KO against Fury in a rematch. Wilder, however, claimed an impressive knockout victory against Robert Helenius in his most recent outing to the squared circle.
Deontay Wilder’s upcoming opponent, Joseph Parker, the former WBO heavyweight champion, won the WBO heavyweight championship in 2016 against Andy Ruiz Jr. He defended the title twice, against Razvan Cojanu and Hughie Fury, before losing it to Anthony Joshua in 2018. With his eyes set on the title, Parker is training with Tyson Fury under Andy Lee to beat Deontay Wilder and position himself at a place of leverage to proceed further in the conversation of a title shot.
Joseph Parker earlier got an interim title shot at the WBO interim heavyweight title against Joe Joyce in 2022 but could not seize the opportunity and lost by KO. He has since regained his grip and won three consecutive bouts, including the fight against Simon Kean, where he won the IBF and WBO InterContinental heavyweight titles in 2023.
