Justin Gaethje trains under Trevor Wittman, a coach and the owner of ONX Sports, a company that makes equipment for combat sports. Wittman was a former boxer who transitioned to a coaching career due to a medical condition. He started training and in 1998, opened the T's K.O. Fight Club, later known as the Grudge Training Center, where he trained several fighters.

Wittman closed Grudge in 2016 to focus on a select group of fighters, including Gaethje, Rose Namajunas, and Kamaru Usman. Gaethje has been training under Wittman since 2011, and he continues to have him in his corner.
