Waldo Cortes-Acosta, notable for his nickname “Salsa Boy”, has been competing in the heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). He initially played baseball iuntill an injury caused to him to change his profession to become a MMA fighter.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta, in his early MMA career, competed for several promotions like Iron Boy Promotions, RUF MMA, Bellator MMA, Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) and Dana White’s Contender Series. He officially made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs Allen on October 29, 2022 and faced Jared Vanderaa, whom he defeated through unanimous decision ion the third round.

Since then, he has won all his fights in the promotion and has lost only once.

Waldo Cortes-Acosta has achieved a win-loss-record of 11-1 in his MMA career as of May 2024. Out of these 11 wins, he won five fights by KO/TKO, one fight by submission and five fights by decision. However, he suffered an elbow surgery that ended his baseball career. After that, he tried to play American football but also failed at that as he couldn’t speak English.

Since he really wanted to be involved in a sport, he decided to lean boxing and eventually MMA. He eventually came to the United States and started to compete in MMA promotions in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. This eventually helped him to make his UFC debut as a mixed martial artist.

Eventually, he defeated Lukasz Brzeski via KO/TKO through punches in 3 minute and 1 second into Round 1.
