Anthony ‘AJ’ Joshua is a professional heavyweight boxer who was born on October 15, 1989, in Watford, England. He is a former two-time unified heavyweight champion and is known for his devastating knockout power combined with incredible athleticism. Despite starting comparatively late in the sport of boxing at 18 years old, Joshua rapidly rose through the amateur ranks, followed by a rapid ascent in the professional circuit following his 2013 debut. Joshua is currently promoted by Matchroom Sport headed by Eddie Hearn.

Joshua’s first title was winning the IBF heavyweight in 2016 by knocking out Charles Martin followed by a defining win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2017, adding the WBA Super and IBO titles after an epic 11th-round knockout. Though he faced a major upset against Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019, he was able to avenge this loss later that year to reclaim his belts. However, he was defeated by Oleksandr Usyk in both 2021 and 2022, losing all of his titles. As of September 2024, Joshua maintains a record of 28-3-0 and is on a four-fight winning streak, which includes the infamous knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in the second round.

Anthony Joshua Trainer

Anthony Joshua is currently coached by Ben Davison, a highly respected figure in the sport. Davison has worked with a host of top fighters such as Tyson Fury, Josh Taylor, and Devin Haney. Joshua partnered with Davison ahead of his bout with Otto Wallin after training under Derrick James for his previous fights in 2023. The main reason for a change of corners was logistical as Joshua needed to be able to stay in the UK for his fight camp and couldn't travel to the U.S. to work with James.

Davison's approach focuses on enhancing Joshua's natural attributes rather than changing his style. He emphasizes the importance of tailoring strategies to fit the fighter's body type and instincts, making adjustments that align with Joshua's explosive, powerful style. This runs in contrast to Joshua's previous attempts at trying to be more cautious and technical an approach many felt didn't play to his natural style.
