Arshdeep started playing cricket of note in 2012 under coach Jaswant Rai at GNPS School, Chandigarh. He took 13 wickets in Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Punjab and also has claimed 19 wickets for Chandigarh in five matches in Punjab Inter-District ODI Championship for the DP Azad Trophy in 2017. He debuted in international youth cricket at the ACC U19 Asia Cup 2017 against Malaysia U19 in Kuala Lumpur on 10 Nov 2017.

In 2017, Arshdeep also played for India Red team in the U19 Challenger Trophy. This was a tournament which displayed his capability as a bowler as he picked up seven wickets which included a five-wicket haul. So this match brought him into limelight.

During the group stage game of the 2018 U19 World Cup against Zimbabwe, Arshdeep had his best performance of the tournament, bowling with an economy rate of 1.43. He bowled in 7 overs which conceded 10 runs to the opponents and he also took 2 wickets. A few months later, he was included in the Punjab U-23 team and he made an impact with the ball against Rajasthan taking 8 wickets including a hat-trick in the CK Nayudu Trophy.

That spurred the selectors to include him in the state team for the Vijay Hazare 2018/19 and Arshdeep had a decent debut claiming 2 wickets against Himachal Pradesh. Arshdeep picked 10 wickets in five matches of the 2021/22 Vijay Hazare season.

Arshdeep Singh IPL Career

After impressing everyone in the Domestic circuit, Arshdeep Singh was snaffled up by Kings XI Punjab. Arshdeep Singh made his debut against Rajasthan Royals in his home ground at Mohali where the left-arm seamer accounted for two big guns of Rajasthan Royals- Jos Buttler and Ajinkya Rahane. The youngster played 3 matches for KXIP in the 2019 season and was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2020 IPL auction.

In 2020, Arshdeep played 8 matches and took 9 wickets, with a high economy rate of 8.77. In the 2021 edition, he again represented the Punjab team. Arshdeep’s skills got more recognised this time, with him taking 28 wickets in 12 matches.

As an opening and a death bowler, Arshdeep’s high economy rate of 8.27 was justified and his brilliant performance of 5 wickets for 32 runs against the Rajasthan Royals caught the eye of the Indian selectors.

In 2022, Arshdeep was given more responsibility for the newly-reinvented Punjab Kings franchise. Although he took only 10 wickets this time around, his impressive economy rate of 7.70 cemented his role as a death specialist.

Arshdeep Singh made his T20I debut against the English team on 7 July 2022, in Southampton, UK. His first over was a maiden, the third Indian to achieve this feat on debut.

The swinging deliveries of the rookie left-arm pacer confused the English batters which led to Arshdeep bowling a spell of 2 wickets for 18 runs in 3.3 overs. Surprisingly, after a scintillating debut, Arshdeep was dropped for the remainder of the T20I series. Next, he was named in the 2022 India-West Indies 5-match T20I series.

Arshdeep was lauded for his economical overs which built the pressure on the opposition, leading to easy fall of wickets. Arshdeep took 4 wickets in the first three matches and then took an outstanding 3 wickets for 12 runs in the fourth match.

Due to his brilliant performances, Arshdeep was selected for the 2022 Asia Cup in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. In a high-pressure match against the arch-rivals Pakistani team, Arshdeep plucked the wickets of a couple of batters.

Then, in the second match against Hong Kong, Arshdeep bowled expensive overs, finishing his spell with 1 wicket for 44 runs in 4 overs. His next match was again against Pakistan. Arshdeep dropped a vital catch in the 18th over and was under tremendous pressure before bowling the 20th over. With seven needed off the final over, Arshdeep bowled with confidence and aggression.

He executed the plan perfectly by bowling accurate yorkers and reignited the hopes of all the Indians with a wicket in the fourth ball. But unfortunately , Arshdeep missed his mark with the ball and the match was over with one ball to spare.

After being the target for the blame of India’s loss, Arshdeep performed miserably in the following match against Sri Lanka, going wicketless for 40 runs in 4 overs. However, Arshdeep finished the tournament on a high, taking 1 wicket for 17 runs against the Afghans.

Sadly, Arshdeep was dropped from the Indian side for the T20I series against Australia. But after a few days of break, he was named in the T20I series against the South Africans. Arshdeep was back with a bang. In his very first over, Arshdeep dismissed three South African top-order batters.

He was adjudged the man of the match in his comeback match for his brilliant 3 wickets for 32 runs. In his most recent match, Arshdeep struggled in a high-scoring match against the Proteas. Although he took two wickets, Arshdeep was hit for a whopping 62 runs from his four overs.

Arshdeep set the tone for India in their first game of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan at the MCG. The left-arm quick dismissed Pakistan openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the powerplay after India decided to field first. He also got the wicket of the dangerous Asif Ali to finish with numbers of 3 for 32 from his four overs as India restricted Pakistan to 159/8 and won by four wickets on the back of a masterclass knock from Virat Kohli.

Arshdeep was India's highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia - 10 wickets in 6 matches at an economy rate of 7.80. He picked his career best figures of 4/37 against New Zealand in the third T20I in Napier.

In January 2023, Arshdeep missed the first T20I against Sri Lanka because he wasn't fully recovered from his illness. He played the second match in Pune, where he conceded 37 runs from two overs, including five no-balls. However, the left-arm pacer bounced back in the final T20I with 3/20 from just 2.4 overs as India beat Sri Lanka by 91 runs in the series-decider in Rajkot.

Arshdeep was taken to cleaners by New Zealand batters in the first T20I as he yielded 51 runs from four overs in exchange of the wicket of Devon Conway's wicket. But he did make a great comeback in the next two games with figures of 2/7 and 2/16 in the second and third matches respectively.
