Appearance of Mawile

With a rather modest appearance, Mawile is a bipedal humanoid-like Pokemon. It is only 2 feet, or 0.6 meters tall. Most of its body is made up of a yellow robe-like appearance. There are black spots around its body with black on its hands and black on its head giving the appearance of hair. There is also a pink gem on top of Mawile’s head where its large backward-facing jaw begins. The jaw on the back of its head is massive, almost bigger than Mawile itself, it has the appearance of jagged teeth along the edges. Mawile’s eyes are red with black pupils.

Behavior of Mawile

Mawile is a cave-dwelling Pokemon. It uses its rather innocent-looking appearance to deceive its foes. Then it is capable of swallowing its prey whole with its massive jaws. In battle, Mawile keeps its massive jaw pointed towards its opponent to keep them away. The Pokedex states that Mawile’s jaws can chew through iron beams. While rather docile-looking, Mawile is very dangerous when encountered in the wild.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Mawile does not have much going for it in terms of base stat totals. Almost every one of Mawile’s stats are abysmally low. With its base form, only its physical attack and defense are respectable. In its mega evolution, its defense and physical attack become much more impressive, and coupled with its new ability Huge Power, it becomes a true force to be reckoned with. However, with low health stats, Any ground or fire type move will make quick work of a Mawile.

Mega Mawile

Like most mega evolutions, Mega Mawile gains a 100 stat boost to its base stat totals. This distribution of stats gives Mega Mawile some direction in terms of what you can build with it. With a much more respectable physical attack and defense stat, Mega Mawile can act as a real threat on your team. Especially with the ability of Huge Power doubling your Mawile’s attack stat. In terms of design, Mega Mawile’s backward-facing jaws become massive and it even grows another set of jaws. Much of its regular color scheme is maintained, but it also gains some pink accents at the base of its wrists and legs.

Mawile Shiny

Shiny Mawile does not change much from its regular sprite. The black in regular Mawile’s backward-facing jaw turns purple/pink with Shiny Mawile. To match this new color palette, the black around its arms is also changed from black to purple/pink in Shiny Mawile’s sprite. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Mawile gains a starry animation upon entering battle.

Best Moveset

If you want to succeed with Mawile on your team, consider utilizing its absolutely insane ability Huge Power from its mega evolution. Mega Mawile is almost a must but shoots its usability from PU (Partially Used) to Uber where most legendary Pokemon reside. This does mean your held item is reserved for Mawilite, but the trade-off is absolutely worth it. For moves, consider running Iron Head, Play Rough, Sucker Punch, and Baton Pass. Iron Head benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Play Rough is much of the same story, Sucker Punch gives you some outplay potential, and Baton Pass is used to get your Mawile out of danger.

How to Catch Mawile in Pokemon Go

You are most likely going to have to catch a Mawile in the wild in Pokemon Go. Mawile will spawn more often in dusty bowl areas and has a higher chance to spawn during snowstorms. It also appeared as a level 3 raid boss for Pokemon Gyms, so it is likely you can still find them through raids. You also have a chance to obtain a Mawile from 10km eggs, this does take quite a bit of time, but considering that Mawile is relatively rare it could save you a decent chunk of time. Luckily, Mawile does not evolve from or into any Pokemon, so any candies you obtain can go straight into powering up your Mawile.

FAQs

Q. What does Mawile evolve into?

Mawile is a standalone Pokemon, meaning that it does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. This means that you can just encounter Mawile while playing through one of the games. You do not need to do anything special to find a Mawile, you can find it in the wild in most cases.

Q. Is Mawile any good?

Regular Mawile does not offer anything too exciting. However, Mega Mawile is one of the most impressive Pokemon in the game considering its ability. The ability Huge Power will double its base attack stat, potentially giving Mega Mawile one of the highest physical attack stats in the game. If you want to run Mawile, try to locate Mawilite as soon as possible.

Q. Is Mawile rare?

Mawile typically has a lower spawn rate than most other cave Pokemon you can encounter. However, it is nothing too low. If you want to catch a Mawile, you can do so with enough time investment, and luckily the lowest its spawn rate seems to go is approximately 10%. This does make Mawile rarer than most Pokemon, but the investment is often worth it.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this deceiver Pokemon. Mawile is a unique Pokemon, not only for the changes it has been through over Pokemon’s history but also for what its mega evolution brings to the table.
