About Vaporeon

As Vaporeon is part of the Eevee evolutions, it bears a striking resemblance to the others in the family. Since it is the water representative, it has fins, a long dolphin tail, and frills to indicate its watery theme. It is seen throughout the anime series. It first appeared in the episode The Battling Eevee Brothers where Vaporeon was seen along with Jolteon and Flareon. Vaporeon was one of the original 151 Pokemon in the Kanto region. Since it is part of the Eeveelutions, you can only evolve it through special conditions, in Vaporeon’s case, using a water stone.

Appearance of Vaporeon

As the water representative for the Eevee line, Vaporeon resembles an aquatic mammal. It has four legs, fins on either side of its head, a large white frill around its neck, and its body ends at a large tail fin. It is mostly blue in color, with dark blue accents, and the frills around its neck are a cream color. In the Pokemon canon, it is often mistaken for a mermaid according to the Pokedex entry. It also has spikes that run along its spine, these colors were actually different in generation one than any other generation. The decision was made to change the colors from black to a darker shade of blue to help feed into the water theme.

Behavior of Vaporeon

Since Vaporeon is a water-type Pokemon, it prefers to spend its time in the water. It prefers freshwater lakes over ocean water. As Vaporeon requires a water stone to evolve, it is impossible to find one in the wild in the games. In Pokemon lore, they do still exist, but they're incredibly rare. Their fins are capable of sensing water, and they will vibrate when it is about to rain. According to the Pokedex, it is capable of freely controlling water, which sounds amazing, but is rather typical for water-type Pokemon. Its body composition allows it to seem invisible while underwater.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Vaporeon has a rather niche statline. Its special stats are decent, but its speed and physical stats make it difficult to utilize its large health pool. If you are interested in using Vaporeon in battle, you should consider moves like Scald, Toxic/Heal Bell, Wish, and Protect. Scald is a powerful special water move that can inflict burn at a 30% chance. This takes good advantage of Vaporeon’s strong special attack stat. You can also consider using Vaporeon as a special wall with its decent special defense stats and high health pool.

Shiny Vaporeon

Like all shinies, Shiny Vaporeon gets the dazzling star entrance when you enter a battle. Shiny Vaporeon’s color palette swaps from blue to a purple/pink color. The accents for Shiny Vaporeon around its head become darker, and the color of its fins and frills become lighter. Of course, to get a Shiny Vaporeon yourself, you will need to obtain a Shiny Eevee, after you give your Shiny Eevee a water stone, it will evolve into a Shiny Vaporeon.

Dark Vaporeon

Dark Vaporeon is a Pokemon TCG card that is valued quite highly if you have a perfect condition card. It was printed in the Team Rocket set of cards as well as making an appearance in the Pokemon Legendary Collection line of cards. A gem mint PSA 10 foil Dark Vaporeon from the Legendary Collection set is retailing at around 4,500 USD. A reverse foil from the same set goes for around 1,000 USD, while nonfoil versions of the card float around 100 USD. As collectors love getting sets of cards, many collectors struggle to get a full set of the Eeveelutions considering their rarity and cost.

Best Moveset

In competitive Pokemon brackets, Vaporeon is unfortunately set at NU (NeverUsed) making it a relatively weak Pokemon. Luckily in its bracket, it is capable of learning a decent set of moves to combat the rest of the Pokemon in this tier. To make your Vaporeon capable of handling a lot of teams in this bracket, you ought to run moves like Scald, Toxic/Heal Bell, Wish and Protect. Scald is a no-brainer considering STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and its powerful secondary effect, Toxic allows you to get through thick Pokemon with high resistances, Wish will take advantage of Vaporeon’s high health pool, and Protect can buy you time for Toxic to run its course. If you decide to run Heal Bell, also consider which Pokemon you want your Vaporeon to be assisting. It is worth noting that Vaporeon is much stronger in single battles rather than double battles.

How to Catch Vaporeon in Pokemon Go

If you want a Vaporeon in Pokemon Go, you will first need to obtain an Eevee. Unfortunately, you cannot catch a Vaporeon in the wild. Luckily, Eevee is relatively common. If you want to evolve an Eevee into a Vaporeon specifically, you can use the name trick and name your Eevee “Rainer”. This is a one-time use for every account with this specific name. When you evolve an Eevee named Rainer, as long as you have not done it once already, your Eevee will evolve into a Vaporeon guaranteed. After you have your Vaporeon, you can rename it afterward if you want. If you have done the name trick already, you will have to roll the dice. If an Eevee is evolved without any extra work (increasing friendship, evolving at day/night, etc.), it has a 1/3 chance of evolving into Jolteon, Flareon, or Vaporeon. It will take 25 Eevee candy every time you attempt it. Since there are so many Eeveelutions to pick from, make sure to use Pinap berries when catching Eevees to support your Eeveelution teams.

FAQs

Q. Which is the strongest Eevee evolution?

The strongest would most likely go to Sylveon. Its type coverage as well as the hidden ability pixilated makes it a strong opponent against popular picks in competitive Pokemon. Vaporeon would be a good pick for single battles, but Sylveon dominates in doubles and in singles as well. It turns out that every Eeveelution has the same total base stats, so it is really up to how you build them and what environment you want them to succeed in.

Q. How do I evolve Eevee into Vaporeon?

In Pokemon Go, you will want to go with the name trick and name and Eevee “Rainer”. Otherwise, you will have to hit a 1 in 3 chance of getting your Eevee to evolve into Vaporeon. In the base games, you will have to use a water stone on your Eevee to get it to evolve into a Vaporeon.

Q. Why is Vaporeon the best Eeveelution?

The arguments for Vaporeon would be its access to the move scald, its inflated health pool, as well as its decent special attack and defense stats. While it is difficult to argue that Vaporeon is indeed the best Eeveelution, it can thrive in many different environments. Vaporeon is also very strong in single battles.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know what Vaporeon is capable of throughout the series. It is a desired card in the TCG, a popular pick in Pokemon Go, and it is very powerful in single battles. Picking a favorite Eeveelution can be difficult, but if you are a fan of water types, Vaporeon can cover that slot in your team very well. Of all the Eevee evolutions in the game, Vaporeon has the highest health, so make sure your strategy includes that if you want to reserve a spot for this Eeveelution on your team.
