Jessica Pegula is an American professional tennis player born on February 24, 1994, in Buffalo, New York. As of May 2025, Pegula has won 15 WTA titles, both in singles and doubles. Her best Grand Slam performance came at the 2024 US Open, where she lost the final against the Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka. In doubles, she was the finalist alongside Coco Gauff at the 2022 Roland Garros. Pegula is ranked No. 4 in singles and No. 61 in doubles by the WTA as of May 2025.

In the 2025 season, Pegula emerged victorious at the Charleston Open (vs. Sofia Kenin) and the ATX Open (vs. McCartney Kessler). She advanced to the finals of the Miami Open, where she lost against Sabalenka 7-5, 6-2. The American reached the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open and the Qatar Open. Her first singles title came in 2019 at the Citi Open. In 2024, Pegula finished as a finalist at the Cincinnati Open and successfully defended her title at the Canadian Open, beating Amanda Anisimova in the final.​

Jessica Pegula was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1994. She grew up in the United States of America. Her parents are Terrence (Terry) and Kim Pegula. Nicknamed JP, she was introduced to tennis at seven, courtesy of her elder sister Laurel, who played Division I tennis at the University of Pittsburgh. Pegula started her tennis training at the Smith Stearns. She shared in an interview with WTA:

"I always felt like that was where I learned to play tennis".

"The technicality of my strokes, which I feel like are a big advantage now that I look back. Everyone always praises me on my technique and my strokes a lot. Billy Stearns was able to instill that in me at a very young age. To teach me my strokes was very important.
