Roger Federer is one of the greatest tennis players of all time but his record at the French Open is inferior to that in other Grand Slams.
However, he did manage to win the competition in 2009, beating Robin Soderling 6-1, 7-6(1), 6-4 in the final. The Swiss thus completed the career Grand Slam.

Roger Federer has won the French Open just once and that was in 2009. Seeded second in the tournament, the Swiss reached the quarterfinals after overcoming Tommy Haas in the fourth round despite being two sets. He then beat Gael Monfils and Juan Martin del Potro to book his place in the final of Roland Garros for the fourth time. Here, he beat Robin Soderling in straight sets to win the tournament for the first and till date, the last time in his career.
Roger Federer’s first win in a match at the French Open came in 2000 when he beat Wayne Arthurs in four sets. He first reached the quarterfinals of the tournament in 2001. His first semifinal at the Grand Slam came in 2005 where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Federer lost to the Spaniard in three successive finals from 2006-2008.
However, he managed to win Roland Garros in 2009 by beating Soderling in the final.The Swede went on to beat him in the quarterfinals of the tournament in 2010. Federer’s fourth and till date, last French Open final came in 2011 and here, he once again lost to Nadal.]
The Swiss reached two more semifinals at Roland Garros in 2012 and 2019. Last year, he reached the fourth round of the tournament and was scheduled to play Matteo Berrettini but pulled out due to injury.
Roger Federer has competed in 90 matches at the French Open till date, winning 73 while losing 17. He has a win percentage of 81% in the tournament which is his lowest for any Grand Slam.
Roger Federer made his French Open debut in 1999 when he lost in the first round to Patrick Rafter. Since then he competed at the Grand Slam each year till 2015. After missing out on the tournament from 2016-2018, Federer took part in 2019 and 2021, skipping it in 2020.
Roger Federer beat Robin Soderling in the final of the French Open in 2009. This is the only time he won a Roland Garros final.
