Fan reactions to the Luka Doncic trade that tied Trae Young to the Dallas Mavericks prodigy forever

In the 2018 NBA draft, the Atlanta Hawks traded Luka Doncic to the Dallas Mavericks for Trae Young. The NBA community was in shock as many believed Doncic was the better player.

Although it's too soon to tell, Doncic is the leading candidate for the MVP award this season. He has led the Mavericks to 10 victories in their first 21 games without much help from his teammates.

Looking back, fans were irate at the decision of the Hawks to trade Doncic. At the time, Young was seen as the better player, and Atlanta believed they were the gainers in the deal.

Fans trolled the Hawks after the official announcement, saying it was a disgraceful decision.

NBA player Rudy Gobert hailed the Mavs for the deal, saying people don't realize how talented Doncic is.

"Great move by the Mavs, people don't realize how good this kid is."

However, it is worth noting that Young has also been a success in Atlanta. He led the team to an incredible victory over the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals.

Although the Hawks reached the conference finals, they could not make it past the eventual champions, Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately, they failed to replicate that performance in the 2022 championship.

The Mavs are not having a great season, as they currently sit 11th in the Western Conference standings. Things would probably have been worse for the Mavs without Doncic.

The All-Star guard leads the team in scoring, assists, rebounds, and steals. Out of their 21 games this season, he has played all but one and averaged 37.6 minutes.

Former NBA player Chandler Parsons recently said that the Mavericks would be lost without Doncic. He highlighted that everyone on the team knows "he's the guy."

"Everybody in that roster, that organization knows Luka is the guy. They know most nights it's gonna be him. But also, J Kidd [Jason Kidd], I guarantee you, is telling these other guys, Doe Doe, Green, Dinwiddie [Doncic's teammates], there's gonna be times when these guys have to take over, have to be ready."

Many are worried that Doncic might burn out faster than usual and might sustain an injury with the huge amount of time he logs in. Fans have also called for other members of the team to step up and lessen Doncic's load.
