NBA legend and longtime head coach Paul Silas passed away on Saturday night at the age of 79. Silas had a 16-year career as a player and was a head coach for 12 seasons for four different teams. He was a two-time All-Star and a three-time NBA champion.

Silas won two championships with the Boston Celtics and added another with the Seattle SuperSonics. His coaching career spanned from 1980 to 2012. He last coached the Charlotte Bobcats, with owner Michael Jordan releasing a statement about his death:

"He combined the knowledge developed over nearly 40 years as an NBA player and coach with an innate understanding of how to mix discipline with his never-ending positivity," Jordan said. "On or off the court, Paul's enthusiastic and engaging personality was accompanied by an anecdote for every occasion. He was one of the all-time great people in our game, and he will be missed."

Cade Cunningham is set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair his fractured left shin, as per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Cunningham has not played a game for the Detroit Pistons since Nov. 9. He has only appeared in 12 games this season, averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 6.0 assists.

Cunningham has been dealing with pain in his shin since the preseason. The Pistons have discussed possible options with several doctors over the past month. The team expects him to be healthy at the start of next season.

The former No. 1 pick came in third in the Rookie of the Year voting last season. The Pistons had high hopes entering the campaign with the addition of rookies Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren.

NBA fines Trae Young and Grant Williams for throwing the ball into stands

The NBA has punished Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks and Grant Williams of the Boston Celtics for throwing the ball into the stands. Young was fined $25,000 on Monday for tossing the ball following the Hawks' buzzer-beating win over the Chicago Bulls.

Young apologized to Hawks fans who received the game ball while taking a shot at the league:

"Sorry to the Hawks fan(s) who got a chance to touch the game winning ball," Young tweeted. "Didn't know I couldn't do that. Can't celebrate sh*t anymore."

Meanwhile, Williams was fined $20,000 for punching the ball into the audience against the Golden State Warriors. The incident took place in San Francisco with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, and Williams was ejected from the game.
