Diego Pavia's standout performance in the 2021 season led the Broncos to the NJCAA National Football Championship, where he played a pivotal role in their victory against Iowa Western by throwing two touchdown passes and rushing for another. After his successful stint at NMMI, Pavia transferred to New Mexico State University (NMSU) in 2022. He played two seasons with the Aggies, during which he threw for over 1,450 yards and led the team with a strong offensive presence.

In January 2024, Pavia announced his transfer to Vanderbilt University. Under head coach Clark Lea's guidance, Pavia quickly became an integral part of the team's offense. His dual-threat ability—combining effective passing with significant rushing capabilities—allowed him to lead Vanderbilt to notable victories, including a historic upset against then-No. 1 Alabama on October 5, 2024. In that game, Pavia completed 16 of 20 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.
