West Indies swashbuckling batter Chris Gayle and Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja jointly hold the record for most runs in an over in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Both Jadeja and Gayle have hit 36 runs in an over but not exactly six sixes. The scenarios for both players was quite similar but there was a little bit of difference in terms of execution.

During the match between Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2011 in Bengaluru, the home team were set to chase a moderate score of 126.

Kerala pacer Prasanth Parameswaran came to bowl the third over against Gayle. The southpaw went ballistic as he hammered two sixes to start the over.

The left-arm medium bowler conceded a no-ball on the second ball of the over and Gayle capitalised on the opportunity, pummelling three fours and two sixes in the remaining over to make it a 37-run over.

Jadeja repeated the feat a decade later in a game between rivals RCB and CSK in IPL 2021 in Mumbai. It was RCB pacer Harshal Patel, who had bowled phenomenally throughout the season, at the receiving end.

Harshal had picked three wickets from his first three overs and conceded just 14 runs before Jadeja took him to the cleaners. The CSK all-rounder smashed four sixes on the first four deliveries, including a no-ball.

To add salt to the wounds for RCB and Harshal, Jadeja was dropped at extra cover on the fourth legal delivery and plundered two runs. The last two balls of the over were hit for a six and a four as IPL witnessed another 37-run over.

Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins hit 34 runs against compatriot Daniel Sams in an over en route to smashing the joint-fastest fifty in IPL. Playing in his first match in IPL 2022 against MI, Cummins smashed 56 runs off 15 balls, including 35 runs in the 16th over.

Cummins cranked a six and four at the start of the over and smashed two more sixes in a row. Sams bowled an over-waist no-ball as Cummins was caught by Suryakumar Yadav at long-off, however, KKR managed to pick up two runs on the illegal delivery.

The Australian pulled for a boundary over square leg to equal the record of fastest fifty in IPL in just 14 balls along with KL Rahul. A six over the bowler's head made it 35 runs in the over and wrapped the 162-run chase with four overs to spare.
