A maverick, a fearless and ruthless juggernaut, an out-and-out match-winner; one that frustrates and befuddles in equal measure, Rishabh Pant will certainly go down as one of the greatest ever wicketkeeper-batsmen to ever play Test match cricket.

Born on October 4, 1997, in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant rapidly rose through the ranks in Delhi and then national-level cricket during the 2nd half of the last decade thanks to his fearless approach and ability to carve out big knocks at a breathtaking pace.

An IPL contract was inevitable following a stellar U19 World Cup and a productive domestic season in 2016. And, it eventually came in 2017. Throughout the next two seasons, Pant went on to establish himself as one of the fiercest hitters of cricket ball.

But, it was Test match cricket that proved to be his true calling. Handed a debut amid a grueling Test series in England in 2018, Pant responded by hitting the very first ball of his career for a six. Then, he went on to score his first Test ton at the Oval, kickstarting his love affair with memorable 3rd/4th innings heists.

Six months later, Pant became the first Asian keeper to score a Test ton in England and Australia after he smashed the Australians to the tune of 159 glorious runs at the SCG.

But, just as his Test career was booming, Pant struggled to match his exploits in the shorter formats, especially T20Is. His average keeping and constant comparisons with MS Dhoni didn't help his cause either.

As a result, his Test form also took a hit in the West Indies, and with his keeping against spinners still a work in progress, he was dropped for Wriddhiman Saha for the 2019 home season.

Pant returned for New Zealand Tests in February 2020 but with minimal returns. He soon found himself out of favor in both white ball and Tests, with India opting for Saha in the opening match of the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

However, the shambolic 36 all-out led to Pant's return, and the southpaw ensured he returned with a vengeance. For the next 24 months, Pant went on to establish himself as one of the leading Test batsmen in the world by playing high-quality knocks in Sydney, Brisbane, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Cape Town, and Edgbaston.

During this time, Pant also resurrected his ODI career even as his T20I career took a nosedive. On 30th December 2022, Pant met with a near-fatal accident while riding his car to his hometown Roorkee. Pant suffered multiple injuries, which is set to keep him out of the game for a few months.

Rishabh Pant’s mother Saroj played a very important role in her son’s journey to the top. Saroj Pant used to take Rishabh to Delhi during the weekends, where he worked on his cricketing skills.

Saroj and Rishabh did not have a place to stay in Delhi. So, the mother-son duo used to stay at a gurudwara in Moti Bagh.

After so much struggle, when Rishabh received a place in India’s World Cup 2019 squad, his mother first visited the temple to pray for her son. Rishabh first told his mother about his selection. Rishabh seems very close to his mother as he regularly credits her for his success on the field.

Pant was going to his hometown in Roorkee to surprise his mother when he met with a horrific car accident on 30th December 2022.

His father Rajendra Pant had a school, where children from different parts of the city came to study. Since Rajendra promoted academics in his area, many well-wishers were surprised to see him back his son Rishabh in becoming a cricketer.

When Rishabh was young, his father would tie a pillow around his chest and bowl quick bouncers to him with a cork ball. This practice made sure that Rishabh was never scared to play short deliveries from the pace bowlers at the highest level of the sport.

Unfortunately, soon after Rishabh Pant’s international debut, his father passed away in his sleep. Pant was playing for Delhi in IPL 2017 at that time. He rushed back home, completed the last rites, and then joined the team before the match against Bangalore. Pant scored a fifty in his first match after his father’s death.

Recently, on the 5th of January, 2024, Sakshi got engaged to her boyfriend, Ankit Chaudhary in London, UK. The couple converted their 9 years long relationship into an engagement.
