Shreyas Iyer's Family

Shreyas Iyer is an Indian middle-order batsman who plays all formats of the sport. He is the skipper of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Iyer was born in Mumbai and he plays domestic cricket for his home city.

In the 2023 World Cup, he scored 530 runs at an average of 66.25. In addition, he became the first Asian player to bat at No. 4 and score over 500 runs in a World Cup.

Iyer received the BCCI Awards 2024's best international debut honor for the 2021–2022 season on January 23, 2024, in Hyderabad.

When he was young, his mother had faith that he would become a big cricketer. She was the one who gifted Shreyas his first bat. He would often sledge his mother while she made food, saying “What are you spoiling today?” Shreyas’ mom used to give him pizza or burgers every time he hit a hundred or fifty.

He added that maybe he wasn’t as focused as Shreyas was, so he discontinued playing. However, he then wanted to pass that on to his son. Santosh Iyer recognized the talent in his son and thus wanted him to take up cricket as a career.

In one of his interviews, Santosh said that he came to know about his son’s talent when he was just four years old. He pushed him so that Shreyas could realize his potential as a cricketer.

Shreyas’ father sent him to one of the finest cricket academies in Mumbai soon after knowing his passion for the game. On the advice of Pravin Amre, He even made him switch to Don Bosco school to participate in competitive cricket so that he gain more opportunities.

However, during his U-16 days, Shreyas lost his form. His father was concerned about it as he felt his son had either fallen in love or mixed up with the wrong crowd. Santosh took Shreyas to a psychologist, who confirmed there was nothing wrong with him. It was just that he was going through a rough patch like every other player.
