Highlights of AEW Collision July 20, 2024

Singles Match: Darby Allin vs. The Beast Mortos

Darby and The Beast Mortos engaged in a fierce fight, with Mortos at first dominating with power moves like a Samoan Drop and a press slam. Darby retaliated with high-flying moves, including a Coffin Drop to the field floor and a Code Red. Eventually, Darby triumphs by hitting an avalanche crucifix bomb followed by another Coffin Drop for the pin.

Singles Match: Hikaru Shida beat Skye Blue

Shida and Skye Blue exchanged intense strikes, with Shida acquiring the advantage and drop-kicking Blue. After a crossbody press to the outside, Blue tweaked her lower leg and collapsed. The official stopped the match, announcing Shida as the winner because of Blue's injury.

Singles Match: Rey Fenix vs. Tony Nese

Nese targeted Rey Fenix's knee and, with the assistance of Woods and Daivari, ambushed and triple-teamed him outside the ring. Despite a powerbomb and a 450 splash from Nese, Rey Fenix countered with a hurricanrana, thrust kick, and a top rope frog splash to get the pin and win the game.

Singles Match: Roderick Strong vs. Tomohiro Ishii

Ishii and Roderick Strong began with a fierce exchange of chops, with Ishii eventually knocking Strong down with a shoulder block and hitting a vertical suplex for a two-count. Despite a strong rebound by Ishii, including a German delivery suplex and a stalling avalanche suplex, Strong managed to get Ishii with an Olympic Slam and gut buster. After an interruption by Matt Taven and Mike Bennett, Strong hit a low blow and followed up with a jumping knee strike to pin Ishii.

Singles Match: Hologram vs. Gringo Loco

Hologram executed a series of great moves, including a twisting hurracanrana and a top rope hurracanrana to the floor. After dodging a tornillo from Gringo Loco, Hologram got him with a heel kick. He then finished Gringo Loco with the Portal Bomb, airplane spin-torture rack combo into a powerbomb, getting the pin.

Lumberjack Match: Deonna Purrazzo vs. Thunder Rosa

Thunder Rosa hit Deonna with a senton and a cross body, yet Deonna fought back with a draping DDT and a superplex onto the lumberjills. Despite Thunder Rosa's near falls with a running dropkick and a spinning Death Valley Driver, Deonna applied a cross-arm breaker and suplexed her. The match finished when Deonna, with assistance from Taya Valkyrie, used a turnbuckle to take out Thunder Rosa and secure the pin.

Undisputed World Trios Championship Match: Christian Cage, Killswitch, & Nick Wayne (The Patriarchy) vs. Juice Robinson, Austin & Colten Gunn

Austin Gunn at first controlled Nick Wayne, who tagged in Christian Cage. Juice Robinson entered and was immediately overpowered by Killswitch. Despite a spirited effort from Juice and the Bang Bang Gang's triple team on Cage, Christian got success after Nick Wayne's mother used hairspray to blind Juice, permitting Christian to hit the Killswitch for the pin.

History of AEW Collision

AEW is an American pro-wrestling promotion that is considered to be perhaps the only serious threat to WWE's immense fanfare around the globe. It all started with a simple twitter post by the renowned wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer who believed that no promotion other than WWE could sell more than 10,000 tickets at the time. His comment was taken as a challenge by Cody Rhodes who was at the time working with ROH (Ring of Honor). He alongside Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and other ROH and Indies wrestlers organized All In in 2018 which sold out more than 10,000 tickets within thirty minutes. Sensing that the monopoly in pro-wrestling could be disrupted, Tony Khan joined hands with Cody Rhodes, Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega to create a new pro-wrestling promotion. Tony Khan is the son of Pakistani-American Billionaire Businessman Shahid Khan.

All Elite Wrestling started its operation in 2019 with Dynamite which aired on Wednesday Nights and on TNT. Soon, Dark and Dark Elevation were added which were uploaded on YouTube every week. The library took a huge jump when Friday Night Rampage was announced in August 2021. It started airing on TNT and Dynamite was shifted to TBS. AEW changed the game in 2023 when it trademarked Collision, later revealed to be the name of a new weekly program that will air on Saturdays. Upon Collison’s introduction, Dark and Dark Elevation were folded. The tapings served the purpose of elevating lesser-known talents, something Friday Night Rampage has since then taken care of.

The first AEW Collision was held on June 17, 2023, and marked CM Punk’s return to the company. The show airs on TNT and so does Rampage. Only Dynamite airs on TBS, which is also a Turner-production network. As Collision takes place every Saturday, it goes head-to-head whenever any WWE Pay-per-view event takes place. Earlier ROH Fight Club took place at the same time on Saturday. But as ROH and AEW are both owned by Tony Khan, Fight Club's schedule was shifted to give Collision the prime time on Saturdays.
