The Pro Kabaddi League began in 2014 with eight teams. Before the fifth season, four new teams, namely Haryana Steelers, Gujarat Giants, UP Yoddha and Tamil Thalaivas joined the tournament.
This competition has revolutionized kabaddi. The sport was losing its popularity but PKL has revived it globally. Earlier, the Indian players dominated the Pro Kabaddi League, but of late, players from other nations have also performed brilliantly in PKL. Many overseas players are part of PKL 2021-22.
The organizers have not changed the format of PKL for the 2021-22 season. Like 2019, each team will play two matches each against the 11 other teams.
The playoffs format has not been revealed yet, but like 2019, the top six teams of the Pro Kabaddi 2022 points table should go through to the next round, where one team will emerge as the champions.

There are a lot of new things in PKL 8. First and foremost, there is no caravan format. Keeping the COVID-19 pandemic in mind, the entire PKL season will likely happen in Bengaluru at the Sheraton Grand Whitefield.
There will be no spectators at the venue for the first time ever in PKL history. Also, the players will live in bio-bubbles and follow all COVID-19 protocols to ensure all things happen safely.
Another new thing in PKL 8 is the ‘Triple Panga’. Fans have witnessed many double headers in the PKL before, but this time there will be triple headers with three matches happening on the same night. The first match will start at 7:30 PM IST, the next at 8:30 PM IST and the final one at 9:30 PM IST.
