Bektemir Melikuziev established a seven-fight winning streak before encountering the first professional loss of his career. On June 19, 2021, Melikuziev locked horns with Gabriel Rosado in a 12-round fight at the Don Haskins Center, in El Paso, Texas, USA. Melikuziev was knocked out in the third round by Rosado, leading to the loss of his WBA continental Americas super middleweight title and the vacant WBA International super middleweight title.
