Charles Oliveira’s most recent outing inside the octagon came against Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 for the vacant UFC lightweight title. Oliveira was defeated by Makhachev via an arm triangle submission in round two, ending his 11-fight winning streak.
The Brazilian is currently the No. 1-ranked lightweight in the division and No. 7 on the men’s pound-for-pound list.
Charles Oliveira's Last Fight Details
In the first round of their highly anticipated showdown, Makhachev focused on takedowns and spent a significant portion of the frame on top skilfully smothering Oliveira's submission attempts while landing some heavy ground and pound on the Brazilian.
Oliveira came out guns blazing in the second round, even managing to land a few powerful punches and kicks against his opponent.
Having enjoyed success in the previous round, Makhachev seemed to gain confidence in his standup. Hoping to stifle the Dagestani with his forward pressure, Oliveira seemingly left himself open. Capitalizing on his opponent’s reckless assault, Makhachev delivered a crisp straight left-right hook combo that stunned Oliveira and dropped him to the ground.
Makhachev had no qualms leaping on top of ‘do Bronx’, going for an arm-triangle choke, and securing the tap at the 3:16 mark of the second round.
