Dricus Du Plessis is a skilled mixed martial artist from South Africa who is the reigining UFC middleweight champion. He began practicing judo when he was five and continued doing so until he was ten. He began wrestling training two years later and continued it for the following two years. He started participating in K-1 kickboxing competitions when he was 15 years old, and as a result, he became the Amateur K-1 SA Champion. He set a record in 2012 when he became the first South African to hold the title of K-1 World Champion under the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO). Dricus's career is marked by the year 2013 because it was the year of his professional debut. Interestingly, he had a 4-0 record before his fight with future Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran and former EFC middleweight champion Garreth McLellan at EFC Africa 33.

In his subsequent bout, Dino Bagattin forced Dricus Du Plessis to make his welterweight debut at the EFC Africa 40 in June 2015. Fortunately, he prevailed via rear-naked choke submission in the second round. Then, at EFC 50, he competed for the uncontested EFC Welterweight Championship, where he defeated seasoned striker Martin Van Staden. Du Plessis now holds a professional MMA record of 21 wins and 2 losses (21-2-0). His last outing was for the UFC Middleweight belt, which saw him locking horns with the former champion, Sean Strickland, and winning via split decision, at UFC 297 on January 20, 2024.
