He began his career by winning the 11th Kyushu and 24th All-Japan Amateur Shooto Championships in 2017, transitioning to professional MMA in 2018 with a submission victory over Yo Otake.

Throughout his early career, Taira competed in various weight classes and achieved notable success in the Shooto and VTJ organizations, winning the Shooto Flyweight Championship in July 2021.
