Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez, the flyweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), was born on January 20, 2000. He had previously won the WBC super flyweight title in 2022. Rodríguez won two U.S. National Youth Championships during his amateur career (2015), in addition to winning the 2016 U.S. Junior Open Tournament. In the international arena, he won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in 2015.

In his professional debut, Rodríguez defeated Mauricio Cruz on March 10, 2017, via unanimous decision. Six of Rodríguez's ten victories came from stoppage, as he concluded 2019 with a perfect record. He has since continued his perfect record by participating in nine more fights, winning all of them—seven by decision and two by knockout.

The Rodriguez versus Cristian Gonzalez bout took place on April 8, 2023, at the Boeing Center at Techport in San Antonio, Texas. Rodriguez won the fight by unanimous decision, earning scores of 116–112, 117–111, and 118–110 to become the sport's youngest active champion.

Rodriguez revealed that he had broken his jaw in the sixth round of the fight in the post-fight interview. It was confirmed the following day that Rodriguez would require surgery in order to heal.

On December 16, 2023, at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, the main event of a DAZN broadcasted Rodriguez versus Sunny Edwards, the four-time defending IBF flyweight champion. Rodriguez won this bout as Edwards' corner stopped the fight.

Jesse Bam Rodriguez’s Brother

Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez’s brother is Joshua Franco. Joshua Franco is Jesse Bam Rodriguez’s older brother and is a professional boxer himself. Franco was born on October 27, 1995, and is the World Boxing Association's (WBA) super flyweight champion from 2020 to 2023. On August 6, 2015, Franco made his professional debut by defeating Temoatzin Landeros via four rounds of split decision (SD) at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California.

It was made public on October 11, 2022, that Franco had begun talks to challenge current World Boxing Oragnization (WBO) super flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka for a unification bout. A month later, it was officially announced that the championship match would take place at Tokyo's Ota City General Gymnasium on New Year's Eve.

The WBO further mandated on November 4 that the fight's victor take on Junto Nakatani, the organization's former flyweight champion, in a mandatory title defense that must happen no later than 180 days after the fight. In December 2022, a draw by majority decision decided the bout. Franco received a score of 115–113 from one judge and 114–114 from the other two.

Both Franco and Ioka agreed to a rematch right away because their first meeting was so inconclusive. The championship match was scheduled for June 24, 2023, at Tokyo's Ota City General Gymnasium. Due to his weight being almost two full divisions over the super flyweight limit, Franco was stripped of the WBA title at the official weigh-ins. He was defeated by a unanimous decision, with two scorecards of 116–112 and one of 115–113.

Joshua Franco’s Record

As of 2024, Jesse Rodriguez had a record of 24 fights in his professional boxing career: 18 wins (eight by knockout, ten by decision), two losses (one by knockout, one by decision), three draws, and one no-contest.
