
Belal Muhammad is a welterweight fighter from the United States who fights in the UFC. Born on July 9, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, Muhammad grew up in a predominantly Muslim community and had to face a lot of adversity and discrimination growing up, which fueled his desire to become a positive role model. Aside from fighting, he has a degree in kinesiology and exercise science, which he gained at the University of Illinois. Muhammad also worked as a personal trainer before his MMA career kicked off.
Muhammad began his professional MMA career in 2012, compiling a nine-fight winning streak before joining the UFC in 2016. His UFC debut did not go in his favor as he lost to Alan Jouban via a unanimous decision. Over the years, he's racked up wins over fighters like Tim Means, Gilbert Burns, Vicente Luque, and Sean Brady. On July 27, 2024, Muhammad took on the former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 304 for the welterweight title. Muhammad defeated him via a unanimous decision to become the new welterweight champion.
