Hailing from Dagestan, Umar Nurmagomedov is undefeated in his mixed martial arts career like most Russian fighters. With a professional career that started in 2016, the 28-year-old maintains a record of 18 wins and no losses in mixed martial arts as of January 2, 2025. For his last fight, Umar Nurmagomedov had a unanimous decision win over Bekzat Almakhan and is currently ranked as the No.2 contender in the Ultimate Fighting Champion.

Moreover, as a level-up, the Russian fighter is set to make his next outing in a five-rounder against the reigning champion, Merab Dvalishvili, for the UFC bantamweight championship. This fight will take place as the co-main event of UFC 311: Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2.

Umar Nurmagomedov’s Trainer

Umar Nurmagomedov has been training under Khabib Nurmagomedov, Javier Mendez, and Magomed Bagandov. Khabib acts as an all-in-all coach. The former UFC champion was the first to exponentially build a legacy around Dagestan. And with his experience, persona, and tactics, Khabib Nurmagomedov pushed Umar to unexplored boundaries.

While talking to the media before UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi, Umar Nurmagomedov replied “Iron sharpens iron” when asked about how he feels to have Khabib Nurmagomedov in his camp as a coach and later as a corner man.

Moreover, Javier Mendez had joined Umar Nurmagomedov’s training camp in Dubai. As per the VLOG released on Khabib Nurmagomedov’s YouTube channel, Mendez had joined Nurmagomedov’s training camp ahead of UFC Abu Dhabi as an MMA coach.

Additionally, during the video, Mendez thanks Magomed Bagandov for keeping the disciples in shape back in Russia. Bagandov is Umar Nurmagomedov’s striking coach at Eagles MMA in Dagestan, Russia. Hence, Umar is undoubtedly blessed to be surrounded by high-spirited men and mixed martial artists.
