Saurabh Sunil Tiwary is an Indian cricketer who has represented the country at the One Day International format and generally plays first class cricket. He is a left-handed batsman and plays in the middle order and in his initial days looked like a doppelganger of MS Dhoni. He was born on 30 December 1989 in Jamshedpur, Bihar, India.
Saurabh started playing cricket at a young age of just eleven years. He began to earn some reputation and eventually found himself in the Under-14 team of Jharkhand before long. His performance at the junior level grabbed eyes and he made his debut in the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy. The best part of career so far came in the initial days. He was one of the key batsmen of the Under-19 team that won the 2008 Under-19 World Cup. The following year, he went on to score three centuries in the Ranji season and grabbed the eyes of the national selectors. Tiwary's 2015-16 Ranji Trophy form was excellent. He was among the top-15 run-getters of the season with a double-century and five fifties.
Tiwary represented Mumbai Indians from the 2008 Indian Premier League. He had become a regular player for them in the IPL 2010, where he was dubbed as a left-handed version of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The 2010 IPL proved to be the peak of his career. Throughout the season, he remained one of the key players for Mumbai Indians and helped the team reach the final. He scored 419 runs at an average of over 29 in 16 games and also earned the award for the Best Under-23 player of the tournament.
In 2011, he was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for USD 1.6 million.In the 2011 IPL also, he had an ordinary season playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. For the next two seasons, he played for the same side but was dropped in the year 2014.
In 2014, Delhi Daredevils signed him for 70 Lakh rupees, but he couldn’t play because of injury. After the injury he was replaced by Imran Tahir in the team.
In the 2016 season, he played for the new team Rising Pune Supergiants. In 2017, he came back to Mumbai Indians for a price of 30 lakhs and in January 2018, he was again bought by Mumbai Indians in the auctions. In the 2020 IPL auction, he was bought by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2020 Indian Premier League.
Tiwary made his debut at the international level against Australia in the year 2010 on 20 October at Vizag. By the time he came out on the field, the game was almost over. He remained not out at 12 runs off 17 deliveries. In the next few chances that he got at the international platform, he failed to make a mark and impress the selectors and eventually lost his place in the side.
Saurabh Tiwary was born on 30 December 1989 in Jamshedpur, Bihar and rose through the ranks, often drawing similarities from his compatriot MS Dhoni in mannerism and playing style.
He and his wife Nikita knew each other from their childhood days and their families were also located in the same colony in Jamshedpur.
