Strengths and Weaknesses

Ampharos is a unique Pokemon, given that they are both a Dragon and an Electric-type, something you don’t see every day in a Pokemon. This means that Ampharos excels in fights against Flying and Water types. Though a low-Speed stat makes them vulnerable to attacks from Fairy, Ice, Ground, and even other Dragon-type moves. Keep an eye on that speed, or else you may find Ampharos out of the battle.

Mega Ampharos

While Mega Ampharos is a major power boost for Ampharos, not only changing their appearance but also their stats as well. Giving them a fluffy white tail and hair, Mega Ampharos has powered up moves during this limited transformation. Just be careful, as Mega Ampahros is not invincible, and can still be knocked out of battle despite the power upgrade.

Best Moveset for Ampharos

Volt SwitchDragon Pulse
Focus BlastThunderbolt

This moveset for prioritizes a high offensive game, while whittling away your opponents' stats. Volt Switch acts as an escape button, Ampharos damaging your opponent before being called back to their Pokeball. This is a good move for when Ampaharos’ health is low but you want to sneak in one last attack. Just be careful as its Speed strat is not the best and this move may backfire. Dragon Pulse is an excellent dragon-type move, Focus Blast has a chance to lower your opponent’s Special Defense by one, and Thunderbolt has a chance to paralyze your opponent.

How to Catch Ampharos in Pokemon Go

The easiest way to catch an Ampharos in Pokemon Go is to work your way up the evolution line. Mareeps are easy to come by, once you catch one, make them your buddy and walk with them while catching more to maximize candy production. Once you get 125 candies, you can evolve to Ampharos.

Another method is finding one in a raid battle, but this is situational, as raid battles are random and you’re never guaranteed to catch the Pokemon.
