Appearance

Boltund is a Pokemon that resembles a yellow version of various hound dog breeds. Its two front paws are white with a yellow stripe on each leg above the white part. But its two back paws are a darker yellow with a lighter yellow on top of it with two spikes on top of each of them. Both of its paws lead into its desaturated green legs which leads into it’s bottom half, that is mainly desaturated green. The upper part of its body is mainly yellow with the green and yellow halves connected around Boltund's shoulders, with the yellow portion covering Boltund's underbelly. It has a thin, yellow tail which takes the shape of a lightning bolt when it raises its tail and a long face that resembles a greyhound with white markings that extend over its muzzle. These white markings end in a triangle shape on the front of its chest. Its eyes are yellow, mint-green, white, and black with no distinct pupil and an outer ring of a light yellow is also around each eye. Boltund also has pointed, yellow ears, with an outer ring of black on the inside of its ears.

Behavior

Boltund is the enemy of the fox Pokemon, Thievul. Boltund can run for three straight days, using the electricity it generates to its legs in order to keep them strong in order to boost its strength. At its top speed, Boltund can easily run faster than 50 mph.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Boltund has a very high speed stat, a relatively high attack and special attack stats. While these stats allow Boltund to serve as an effective sweeper, it should be noted that it’s defence and special defence stats are both relatively low. As an electric-type Pokemon, Boltund is weak to ground-types but is resistant to flying, steel, and electric-type.

Shiny Boltund

Shiny Boltund is a version of Boltund that has a paler, yellow-green upper half and a darker warm toned lower half. The main way to get a Shiny Boltund is to continuously breed either Yamper or Boltund until you get a Shiny Yamper, which can then be evolved into a Shiny Boltund.

Best moveset

Boltund’s high speed stat allows it to serve as a sweeper. Thunder Fang is a solid STAB (same-type attack bonus) move in order to deal damage, with Fire Fang and Play Rough both serving as type coverage. Finally, Volt Switch also allows Boltund to deal damage right before switching out. This move, along with Play Rough serves to have Boltund take damage in order to raise its attack right before switching out in order to avoid being knocked out.

Trivia

  1. Boltund resembles various dog breeds, specifically a greyhound and an English Foxhound and to a lesser the lurcher or longdog given its generic sighthound appearance
  2. Boltund's relationship with Thievul is likely a reference to the practice of fox hunting, where red foxes were hunted by foxhound dog breeds
  3. The name Boltund is likely a combination of the words bolt (a jagged white flash of lightning) and Hund (German word for dog) or hound (a dog of a breed used for hunting)
  4. Boltund’s pre-evolution, Yamper was first showcased during an E3 2019 demo
