Cherrim Pokémon

Hailing from the fourth generation of Pokemon, Cheerim is a Grass Pokemon with a unique appearance, and an even more useful form. While Cheerim can evolve from Cherubi, it has a secondary form that it shifts into, thus further protecting it in a battle. That is a helpful and practical strategy, so long as you meet the right conditions.

Cherrim Appearance

You can encounter a Cherrim twice, and unless you know about its forms, you could think they’re two completely different Pokemon. When not under contact with direct sunlight, Cherrim’s petals enclose in on itself and form a shell that doesn't reveal too much about the Pokemon other than Cherrim’s legs and the bud on the top of its head. The two petals are purple in colour while a short pink stem, or bud, sprouts up with green leaves surrounding it. Furthermore, its eyes appear to be near its legs in this form.

However, in its Sunshine form, the petals unfurl, and Cherrim looks like a completely different Pokemon. The leaves are now pink, you can see Cherrim’s yellow face and red eyes and it has two berries along the sides of its head.

Behavior

Cherrim depend and rely on sunlight in order to move around, and if there are no sun rays shining down on them, it will change to its Overcast form. The transition between forms is quick, taking mere seconds to change. Once Cherrim is in its Sunshine form, they make up for lost time and enjoy moving about; eating berries, running quickly, seemingly changing its personality as well. But once the sun is gone, it quickly reverts back to its Overcast form, acting nearly innate. In this form virtually nothing can hurt the Pokemon, as their petals harden and protect them from damage.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Stats wise, Cherrim is not a bad Pokemon as they focus on Defense which means that it will be hard to knock it out of a fight without a good strategy. Its highest stat is Special Defense, with Speed being a close second and that means it is not only tough, but also hard to hit. However it trades this for low Attack stats, just keep that in mind. Furthermore, as a monotype grass type, Cherrim is weak against Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, and Poison types moves but is resistant against Ground, Water, Electric and Grass type moves.

Shiny Cherrim

Shiny Cherrim

Finding a Shiny Cherrim is tricky due to the odds of you finding one in the wild, the numbers are not in your favor without patience and time. The main difference between a normal and Shiny Cherrim is very subtle, as Shiny Cherrim’s petals are now light pink although there’s not much difference from a normal Cherrim. To get a Shiny Cherrim of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild, hatch one from eggs, or you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Cherrim gains a starry animation when it enters a battle.

Best moveset for Cherrim

Sunny DaySwords Dance
Petal BlizzardReturn

This moveset emphasizes team play and buffing your allies in the fight. Sunny Day increases the damage of fire moves when there is Harsh Sunlight, Swords Dance raises Attack by two, Petal Blizzard is a hard hitting grass move, and Return is best when Cherrim is at max Happiness.

How to catch Cherrim in Pokemon Go?

At the moment, the easiest way to catch Cherrim for yourself is to just walk around. Cherubi are fairly common to find around Pokestops and will have a higher spawn chance in windy weather. Once encountered, more often than not a simple Pokemon and a well placed throw are all that’s needed to ensure capture. Then it’s a simple matter of collecting fifty Candies to evolve it into Cherrim.

Trivia

  1. Bird Pokemon are unable to get past Cherrim’s shell when in Overcast form.
  2. In its generation, Cherrim was the only Pokemon able to change forms without using a move
  3. Cherrim and its predecessor take inspiration from Cherries
