Introduced in generation six, with the Pokemon X and Y games, Dedenne is a dual type electric and fairy Pokemon. It is a standalone evolution, which means that it is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokemon. Dedenne is classified as the “Antenna Pokemon” which points to its electric abilities. This guide will showcase Dedenne’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Dedenne.

About Dedenne

As Dedenne is a generation six Pokemon, it made its first appearance in the X and Y season of the anime with the episode Kalos, Where dreams and Adventures Begin!. While it did not have a starring role, this is a unique episode as it is the first of the X and Y season. Despite its rather small stature, Dedenne is a standalone Pokemon and thus there is no Pokemon that it will evolve from or into. The Pokedex mentions its ability to absorb electricity as well as its ability to send and receive electrical waves.

Appearance

Dedenne is a small, orange, mouse-like Pokemon that very closely resembles Pikachu with red spots on its cheeks where it can generate electricity. Most of Dedenne’s body is orange but it has a pale yellow stomach and ears. Its ears are trimmed with black and it has a long black tail. Dedenne is a bipedal Pokemon, but it is rather short at only 8 inches, or 0.2 meters, tall.

Behavior

Dedenne received a fair amount of screen time as Clemont caught it while traveling with Ash. Despite Dedenne’s small frame, it is shown to be a very hungry Pokemon and throughout its appearances in the anime, it is often depicted eating food or plotting to steal food. Thanks to Dedenne’s ability to communicate through electricity, it becomes great friends with Ash’s Pikachu. The Pokedex makes Dedenne out as a mischievous Pokemon, often sneaking into people’s homes to steal electricity.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As a standalone Pokemon, there is not too much about Dedenne that is impressive. Its speed stat is respectable but all of its other stats are incredibly mediocre. However, with its ability, Cheek Pouch, it can utilize the effects of a berry to great effect. As a dual type fairy/electric Pokemon, Dedenne is 2x weak to poison and ground type moves. Thanks to its fairy typing, it is immune to dragon type moves and is also resistant to fighting, flying, bug, electric, and dark type moves.

Best Moveset

It is difficult to justify Dedenne’s use in competitive play which is why its position in competitive brackets has been near the bottom since its introduction. Nevertheless, it has a respectable speed stat which means it is more than capable of setting up a sweep. With a Petaya Berry, as a held item, along with Cheek Pouch, Dedenne can showcase a roundabout form of power. Consider running Substitute, Recycle, Thunderbolt, and Grass Knot to have a chance at success. Substitute combines well with the Petaya Berry, eventually raising its special attack stat. Recycle can ensure that Dedenne continues setting up while also restoring more health. Thunderbolt benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and functions as its main source of damage while, Grass Knot is for type coverage or heavier Pokemon.

How to Catch Dedenne in Pokemon Go

While Niantic has recently released generation six Pokemon in Pokemon Go, Dedenne has not made it into the game. Since Pokemon tend to get released in batches, Dedenne is likely not far behind the other generation six Pokemon. The developers will likely include Dedenne in a community day event or have it spawn in the wild frequently once it has been officially added to the game. Until then, you cannot catch a Dedenne in Pokemon Go.

Trivia

  1. Of all the Pokemon in the franchise, Dedenne is the only Pokemon with a total base stat of 431.
  2. The inspiration for Dedenne’s design likely comes from an interpretation of gerbils or hamsters combined with a television antenna.
  3. The name dedenne is likely a combination of the words denki (Japanese for electricity) and antenne (French for antenna).
