Krookodile Pokémon

Last Modified Jul 14, 2021 07:25 GMT

Introduced in generation five with the Pokemon Black and White games, Krookodile is a dual type ground and dark Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Sandile, and evolves from Krokorok at level 40. This shady looking crocodile is known as the “Bully of the Sands” and its epithet supports this by classifying it as the intimidation Pokemon. This guide will showcase Krookodile’s appearances in the anime, its capabilities in battle, as well as other general facts about Krookodile.

About Krookodile

Krookodile’s entire evolution line was introduced in generation five. It made its first appearance in the anime in the black and white season with the episode An Epic Defense Force!, where it played a minor role as a rival to the protagonist’s friend, Luke. Aptly named the intimidation Pokemon, Krookodile has access to the abilities Intimidation, Moxie, and Anger Point. The Pokedex states that their jaws are incredibly powerful and can even crush a car in its mouth.

Appearance

Krookodile is a large red crocodile with a white body and black stripes on its back. It is a bipedal Pokemon with its arms and legs end in pointed claws. Along its crocodilian jaw, you can see multiple jagged teeth even with its mouth closed. Furthermore, around Krookodile’s eyes are black patches that resemble sunglasses. Despite being so large, a Krookodile is only 4 feet and 11 inches, or 1.5 meters, tall and it does have a long tail with a spike at the tip.

Krookodile Appearance

Behavior

We were able to see much of Krookodile’s behavior, more so than other Pokemon, thanks to its inclusion on Ash’s team. It was shown to be confident in its abilities and competitive in battle which it retained even after Krokorok evolved into Krookodile. It remained smart and confident, but still a compassionate member of Ash’s team although Ash’s Krookodile was also shown to be reckless and cause havoc from time to time. The Pokedex states that they are incredibly aggressive and will lie patiencently in wait under the sand for days in order to ambush it’s prey.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Krookodile has a strong physical attack stat and a decent speed stat to back it up. While it is not particularly bulky, it is no a pushover either. Unfortunately for fans of Krookodile, it has an awful defensive typing with it weak to fighting, bug, water, grass, ice, and fairy type moves. Luckily, it comes with intimidate which can act as a defensive trait by debuffing your opponent’s attack stat. It is resistant to poison, rock, ghost, and dark types and it is completely immune to electric and psychic attacks.

Shiny Krookodile

Shiny Krookodile is a particularly striking shiny. It replaces almost every color on its palette, and it seems to be able to blend into the sand easier. Shiny Krookodile’s black stripes are replaced with yellow, its red body swapped for a brown color, and its stomach becomes grayer than its regular form. It is very easy to distinguish between Shiny Krookodile and regular Krookodile. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Krookodile will have a starry animation upon entering battle.

Best Moveset

Since Krookodile’s introduction to the games, it has stayed right in the middle of competitive tier battle lists and it has been placed in UU (Under Used) for four generations in a row. Its access to Intimidate and its ground dark typing allows it to be used as a glass cannon offensive Pokemon. Consider running Earthquake, Knock Off, Stone Edge/Superpower, and Pursuit/Superpower. Earthquake and Knock Off will serve as Krookodile’s main source of damage while also benefiting from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus). Stone Edge/Superpower are interchangeable depending on which types you expect to run into. Finally, Pursuit will allow you to have some outplay potential if you can read an opponent’s switch out.

How to Catch Krookodile in Pokemon Go

For those wanting to obtain Krookodile, you will likely have to go through some unique conditions. Sandile does not spawn naturally in the wild, you will need to obtain a special egg in order to hatch it. They will only come from 12 km eggs, also known as “strange eggs”, and you will have to hatch one for a chance at a Sandile. Unfortunately, neither Sandile, Krokorok or Krookodile has appeared in Pokemon Gym raids and thus a strange egg is your best way at the moment. It will cost 25 Sandile candies to evolve into Krokorok and another 100 to evolve into Krookodile.

FAQ

Is Krookodile a Good Pokemon?

Krookodile has remained firmly in the middle of competitive tier lists since its introduction in generation five. With its access to strong abilities like Moxie and Intimidate, Krookodile can be relevant as long as it has appeared on the battlefield. In both casual and competitive settings, Krookodile can be considered a good Pokemon.

What is Krookodile?

The name Krookodile stems from a combination of the words crocodile and crook. Its design is supposed to seem like a cartoonish villain or robber whose attire is black and white with a mask over their eyes while it’s real life counterpart is a crocodile.

Who is better, Krookodile or Excadrill?

While Krookodile has some decent power to it, Excadrill is one of the strongest ground type Pokemon in the game. Excadrill’s health and physical attack stats are also higher than Krookodile and thus it makes it a better sweeper. Also with access to moves like Swords Dance and the ability Sand Rush doubling Excadrill’s speed, Krookodile is nowhere close.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “intimidation” Pokemon. Krookodile was introduced in generation five and since its inclusion has managed to make an impact even three generations later. While it may not be the premier ground type, you will not regret reserving a spot for Krookodile on your team.
