Magnezone Pokémon

Last Modified Jul 14, 2021 11:24 GMT

Introduced in generation four with the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games, Magnezone is a dual type electric and steel Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Magnemite and evolves from Magneton after unique evolving conditions are fulfilled. Magnezone is classified as the magnet zone Pokemon by the Pokedex and is fairly unique as its pre-evolutions were introduced, three generations ago, in the Pokemon Red, Blue and Green games. This guide will showcase Magnezone’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime and other general facts about Magnezone as well.

Appearance

Magnezone is a flying, UFO-shaped Pokemon as it’s wide and circular body resembles a flying saucer with magnets at its base and for hands. On either end of its body there are two ball shaped formations each with its own eye and on top of its main body is a yellow antenna. Multiple screws and rivets can be found throughout its body with most of Magnezone gray or light gray. It has a single red eye in the center of its body and is fairly small at only 3 feet and 11 inches, or 1.2 meters, tall.

Magnezone Appearance

Behavior

Magnezone is capable of emitting fairly powerful magnetic waves. In fact, it does that so well that multiple Magnezones may become stuck together due to their magnetic capabilities. A lot of what the Pokedex mentions about Magnezone implies some extraterrestrial existence. The Pokedex states that it transmits signals or receives signals from unknown origins and it also states that scientists have attempted to evolve Magnezone to no avail.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Magnezone is excellent in battle as it has respectable resistances and a high special attack stat. It is not a particularly fast Pokemon but it has been ranked in the top brackets of competitive play since its release. As an electric and steel Pokemon, it resists a majority of the types available in the games. That’s a list that includes normal, flying, rock, bug, steel, grass, electric, psychic, ice, dragon, and fairy types. It will, however, take 2x damage from fighting and fire types and 4x damage from ground type moves.

Shiny Magnezone

While the shiny variants of its pre-evolutions were quite distinct, Shiny Magnezone is much harder to distinguish from the regular version. There is not much that changes between a regular Magnezone and a Shiny Magnezone but the latter’s eye is blue while its body is a bit lighter than its regular variant. It can be very difficult to distinguish between the two but like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Magnezone has a starry animation upon entering battle.

Best Moveset

Magnezone is quite capable in competitive formats of Pokemon. With its impressive stat distribution, it serves as a revenge killer on your team as its speed stat almost ensures that it goes first. Nevertheless, it is capable of taking quite a few hits, thanks to its defensive typing, as well as dishing out more than a fair amount of damage. For a decent moveset consider Substitute, Thunderbolt, Flash Cannon and Hidden Power Fire. Substitute can take a hit for Magnezone, Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and Hidden Power Fire is used for type coverage.

How to Catch Magnezone in Pokemon Go

Like most final evolution Pokemon, the easiest way to obtain a Magnezone is to capture its base evolution and evolve it into a Magnezone eventually. You can find Magnemites wherever electric Pokemon spawn (shopping districts, cities, and college campuses) as well as in 5 km eggs. You will need 25 Magnemite candies in order to evolve it into Magneton, and another 100 candies and a Magnetic Lure in order to evolve it into Magnezone. If you want to skip the grinding, you can also find Magnezones in tier three raid battles in Pokemon Gyms.

Trivia

  1. In some Pokemon games, when Magnezone sleeps its main eye will remain open while the eyes on the side will close.
  2. Even though depictions of Magnezone show it flying, it does not have access to the ability Levitate.
  3. The name Magnezone comes from shortening and combining the words magnetic field.

FAQ

How do you Evolve Magneton into Magnezone?

Magneton has some unique evolving conditions that change between generations. In generation four to generation seven, you will need to level your Magneton in a special area called a special magnetic field. In generation eight, you just need to use an Electric Stone on your Magneton.

How do I get a Magnezone in Pokemon Go?

You will first need to obtain a Magneton through typical means and then evolve it. It will take 100 Magnemite candies and a Magnetic Lure Module used in order to unlock its evolution. While most Pokemon from generation four just require the candies and a Sinnoh Stone, you will need to activate a PokeStop with a lure module like the generation four Eevee evolutions.

Why can’t Magneton evolve in Go?

Magneton can evolve in Pokemon Go. You just need to activate a Magnetic Lure Module at a nearby PokeStop. Once the lure is activated and you are standing nearby, the evolution will be unlocked at the cost of 100 Magnemite candies. There did exist a bug where Magneton would not evolve correctly but Niantic has since fixed the problem.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “magnet area” Pokemon. Magnezone has made quite an impact since its introduction in generation four as it’s strong defensive typing combined with it’s bulkiness makes it a force to be reckoned with, in both casual and competitive play. Magnezone’s lore also implies an extraterrestrial world in the universe of Pokemon, which has made it even more appealing for a few players.
