Introduced in generation five, with the Pokemon Black and White games, Pansear is a mono fire type Pokemon. It is the first stage evolution of its two stage evolution line and evolves into Simisear when given a Fire Stone. Pansear is classified by the Pokedex as the “High Temp” Pokemon which may be a nod to its general design. This guide will showcase Pansear’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Pansear.

About Pansear

As a generation five Pokemon, Pansear first appeared in the Black & White series of the anime in the episode Triple Leaders, Team Threats! In this episode, Ash challenges the three gym leaders of Striaton City to a gym battle. The first battle is against Chili and his Pansear. The Pokedex mentions that the tuft of hair on Pansear’s head reaches 600°F, or 315°C.

Appearance

Pansear is a red and yellow bipedal Pokémon that resembles a monkey. It has two large red ears with orange markings, and the red tuft of hair on its head is curled into the shape of a flame. The lower half of its face, its upper body, and its arms are cream colored, while its head, lower body, and tail are red. Its hands are rounded like mittens with only a thumb, and it has three toes on each foot. It has a teardrop shape on the end of its tail. Pansear stands at 2 feet tall, or 0.6m, and it weighs 24.3lbs, or 11kg.

Behavior

Pansear can commonly be found in caves and volcanoes. It is said to be very intelligent and likes to help people. The tuft of hair on Pansear’s head can reach 600°F when it is angered, and it uses this heat to roast berries. The Pokedex confirms that Pansear enjoys roasting its berries before eating them. In the Pokemon Anime, Chili’s Pansear shows a love for both battle and food.

Strengths and Weaknesses

There are not many strengths regarding Pansear as Ponyta outclasses its stats in every regard and also has access to better abilities. However, if you are determined to use Pansear, you have some options. That is because Pansear has access to some utility moves that Ponyta does not, which means that Pansear can be a serviceable staller. As a mono Fire type, Pansear is weak to Ground, Rock, and Water types, and is resistant to Bug, Steel, Fire, Grass, Ice, and Fairy type moves.

Best Moveset

There is little reason to consider running Pansear in competitive play. It simply falls too short of other Pokemon and while it can be used as a defensive Pokemon, it is far too vulnerable to succeed in this role for long. Pansear’s most effective moveset leans towards stalling out your opponent with burns from Will-O-Wisp and reusing held items with Recycle. Pansear will struggle against opposing fire types that are immune to Burn, but it can wall off physical attackers to buy time for the rest of your team.

How to Catch Pansear in Pokemon Go?

If you would like to obtain a Pansear in Pokemon Go, there, unfortunately, seems to be only one way to obtain it. You will need to find a Pansear in the wild, as it is no longer obtainable from eggs. Additionally, Pansear is only available in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India. As a base evolution Pokemon, Pansear spawns commonly in the wild. You can find it spawning, at a boosted rate on Sunny days and Clear nights. It also has not been available as a raid boss in the past. You will need 50 candies and a Unova stone in order to evolve Pansear into Simisear.

Trivia

  1. Most Pokemon to evolve from Fire Stone were introduced in generation one, Pansear is the only Pokemon not in Generation 1 to evolve via a Fire Stone.
  2. Pansear, as well as Panpour and Pansage, appear to be based on the “Three Wise Monkeys”. Pansear represents “hear no evil”, as it is often depicted holding a hand to its ear.

FAQ

At What Level Does Pansear Evolve?

Pansear is part of a two stage evolution line and will evolve after a Fire Stone is used and it does not evolve via level-up. Instead, Pansear will only evolve into Simisear when given a Fire Stone. After the Fire Stone is used, the evolution animation will begin to play.

Is Pansear A Starter Pokemon?

No, Pansear is not a starter Pokemon, as it is not given to the player by a Pokemon Professor. It is part of a trio that does reflect the starter type trope, but it is not a starter Pokemon. However, in Pokemon Black and White, a woman will give the player a Pansear if they chose Oshawott as their starter Pokemon.

How Good Is Pansear?

Unfortunately, Pansear is not a strong Pokemon and it is much weaker than other fire type Pokemon like Ponyta. However, Pansear has access to some utility moves that Ponyta does not, giving it a defense niche. It has balanced stats, but they are below average all things considered.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “High Temp Pokemon”. While Pansear does not seem like the most intimidating Pokemon, it can offer a lot of sustainability for your other Pokemon. It can burn its foes to cut their physical attack, and it can reuse its held item multiple times.. Reserve a slot on your team for Pansear for a defensive/utility fire type Pokemon.
