Pyukumuku Appearance

Appearance

Pyukumuku is a sea Pokémon with a black oval body and features two beady pink eyes with a white mouth in the shape of a star or Daimonji on its face. It has the ability to spew out its internal organs through its mouth and the white organs can be shaped in a variety of ways, including a fist. Each side of its back has two lines of three pink spikes and each line's center spike is almost twice as long as the others. Lastly, its has a fluffy white puffy tail.

Behavior

Pyukumuku has a habit of finding a favorite location and staying there and it even returns to the same spot if it moves. Once all of the food in its favorite spot has been consumed, it will remain there until it becomes starved. Pyukumuku has a viscous fluid coating on its body that permits it to survive on land for a week without drying out. People can use this fluid as a moisturizer as well but it will release its fist like organs and slap the culprit if it is trodden on. It is gets very irritated when its mouth or spikes are touched and is the only Pokémon known to know how to learn the move Purify.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Being a Water-type Pokemon, it is resistant against Steel, Fire, Water, and Ice-type moves but weak against Grass and Electric-type moves. Due to Pyukumuku's combination of good defensive stats, its pure Water typing, access to reliable recovery and an amazing ability in Unaware, it's able to carve itself a decent niche for itself by being an Unaware user. That is because it has a better overall bulk that allows it to handle certain setup sweepers and offensive threats

Best Moveset

Pyukumuku's secondary role, other than being an Unaware wall, is that of a bulky trapper that can either PP or Toxic delay passive targets. This is beneficial for stalling teams that want to get rid of a specific nuisance instantaneously. Pyukumuku is a major momentum drain, necessitating its employment only on stall teams where its colleagues can compensate for its weaknesses. It also has a limited move pool, which makes it one-dimensional and fairly predictable. Pyukumuku is incredibly passive and will lose to any Taunt users while being irritated by Substitute users due to the lack of attacking choices and ability to solely inflict damage with Toxic.

Block prevents the target from switching out, allowing Pyukumuku to more effectively PP stall enemies with Spite or force more Toxic damage to be dealt quickly. It relies on Recover for dependable recuperation and to keep an eye on threats throughout the game. Pyukumuku can also defeat Manaphy by using Spite in combination with Block to drain the PP of Poison Heal and Magic Guard users. Rest is used to deplete Pyukumuku's status and defeat other defensive barriers while Taunt can be used instead of Rest to speed up the PP stalling process.

Trivia

  1. Pyukumuku is incapable of learning any attacking moves other than Bide and Counter. Because of this, it is one of the very few Water-type Pokémon that is completely unable to learn a move that counters Grass types, since almost every Water-type can learn Ice Beam.
  2. While Magikarp and Keldeo also cannot learn Ice Beam, they can both learn the move Bounce while Keldeo can also learn Icy Wind, Poison Jab, Megahorn, Air Slash, and X-Scissor.
  3. In Super Smash Bros., Pyukumuku is one of the Pokémon that can be freed from Poké Balls. During this time, it uses the move Counter.
  4. Pyukumuku spits its organs from its mouth much like real sea cucumbers although they spit their organs from their anus.
  5. Pyukumuku has the lowest base Speed stat of all Water-type Pokémon and is also tied with Shuckle and Munchlax for the lowest base Speed stat of all Pokémon.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You now know about Pyukumuku, which is based on a sea cucumber, some species of which expel their Cuvierian tubules (part of the sea cucumber's respiratory system) to deter would-be predators from eating them. Given its tail and "ears", it may also be inspired by the sea bunny, a type of sea slug that became popular in Japan in 2015 due to its cute appearance.
