Stakataka Appearance

At first glance Stakataka doesn't even appear to be alive as it looks more like a tower than a creature. However, that’s exactly it: Stakataka is composed of several smaller units to make up this colossal Pokemon. Up to one hundred and fifty of the little guys make up this living fortress, as noticeable by the glowing blue eyes and markings. The little lifelike stones are gray in colour with that colour palette all over Stakataka’s body. The lighter gray stones have glowing blue lines on their sides while the darker black underside has one blue eye.

Behavior

Although it may look like a climbable structure, it’s advised not to do so, as anything, human or Pokemon who tries it will find themselves being violently shaken off, much like a bull in a rodeo. However, if you manage to stay on for long enough, you will earn Stakataka’s respect, as well as being able to ride it. Furthermore, the blue eyes will turn red if it is angry with the stones acting in unison to attack their opponent.

Strengths and Weaknesses

While this is an interesting Pokemon to look at, Stakataka’s stats are almost otherworldly even for Legendary Pokemon. It’s strongest asset is the ludicrously high Defense stat at a whopping 211 as a base value. With base values of 131 and 101 for Attack and Special Defense, you can see the drawbacks with this Pokemon. However, it’s speed stat is very very poor, with a base stat of 13, and thus it means that this Pokemon is as slow as they come. However, with the right move, this can be taken advantage of.

As a dual Rock/Steel Type, Stakataka has a massive type advantage thanks to the presence of steel in its typing. That makes it resistant against Normal, Flying, Rock, Bug, Psychic, Ice, Dragon and Fairy-type moves. However, it is weak against Fighting, Ground and Water types, taking four times the normal damage from the first two and twice the normal damage from the latter. Even with all those weaknesses however, it’s tough to actually knock Stakataka out as thanks to its high Defense stat, Stakataka can take a few hits.

Best moveset for Stakataka

Trick RoomGyro Ball
Stone EdgeEarthquake

This moveset relies on Stakataka’s low Speed stat, turning it’s weakness on its head and into an advantage instead. This is done with the move Trick Room as it starts out guaranteed last ,however once done, the turn order is reversed, practically guaranteeing you will always make the first move from here on out. Gyro Ball’s damage depends on how slow Stakataka is compared to the enemy, so it’s likely to always be a reliable source of damage. Stone Edge is a move with a high crit rate while Earthquake is a reliable Ground move that can hit more than one Pokemon.

Shiny Stakataka

Shiny Stakataka

With it already being a hard enough time catching on its own, finding a Shiny Stakataka is tricky as it is a tough Pokemon to defeat. The main difference between a normal and Shiny Stakataka is obvious, as Shiny Stakataka’s body now has a gold colour palette. Beyond this nothing else changes with the blue markings and the black underside remaining the same. To get a Shiny Stakataka of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild, or you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Stakataka gains a starry animation when it enters a battle.
