Tauros

Last Modified Oct 6, 2021 05:04 GMT

Introduced in the original games of generation one with Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green, Taurus is a monotype normal Pokemon. It is a standalone Pokemon as well which means that it does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. Tauros is classified by the Pokedex as the “Wild Bull Pokemon” which may be a nod to its general design. This guide will showcase Tauros’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Tauros.

About Tauros

As one of the original 151 Pokemon of generation one, Tauros first appeared in the original series in the episode The Legend of Miniryu. This episode was banned from international broadcast and only showcased in Asia. The episode was banned due to the use of guns and Tauros appeared internationally in the episode Showdown at the Po-ke Corral. The Pokedex mentions Tauros’s temperament and how it will constantly rampage around.

Appearance

Tauros is a quadrupedal, bull-like Pokemon that has a mostly brown body with a dark brown mane. There are two large horns sticking from its head and it has three split tails at its base. Its snout matches the color of its mane, and its feet end in four gray hooves. It is fairly unique as all Tauros are strictly male Pokemon. On Tauros’s forehead are three gray bumps running down its head which can protect it as it slams into things. Tauros is an average sized Pokemon at 4 feet and 7 inches, or 1.4 meters, tall.

Behavior

Tauros has made many different appearances throughout the anime’s history. The first episode it appeared in was actually banned from international broadcast which led to confusion as to how Ash obtained a Tauros. Many Tauros can be seen at Professor Oak’s laboratory as Ash had captured a herd of 30 Tauros that Professor Oak takes care of. It is an aggressive Pokemon and will charge at anything and everything to satiate its desire for fighting. The Pokedex mentions that Tauros tend to run in groups which can give them opponents to fight constantly.

Strengths and Weaknesses

A Tauros is formidable in battle as it has a good offensive line up, decent resistances, and a good speed stat. While it does not have the best range of moves as a monotype normal Pokemon, it can pose a threat to any type of Pokemon other than ghost type Pokemon. As a monotype normal Pokemon, Tauros takes 2x damage from fighting type moves and it is immune to ghost type moves, but has no resistances to any type of moves.

Best Moveset

Tauros was originally one of the strongest Pokemon you could get your hands on. It has a decent amount of bulk and could pose an offensive threat against many different teams. However, as newer generations get released, Tauros has fallen further and further into obscurity. Nevertheless, Tauros can still fulfill the offensive Pokemon role with its Sheer Force ability. Consider running Rock Climb, Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Iron Tail/Zen Headbutt. Rock Climb benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Iron Tail/Zen Headbutt is meant to give Tauros the biggest range of type coverage possible. You will just want to connect a hit against the opponent's Pokemon with Tauros.

How to Catch Tauros in Pokemon Go

If you would like to obtain a Tauros in Pokemon Go, you will likely need to travel. Tauros is a region-locked Pokemon and it will only spawn naturally in North America. While it can hatch from 5 km eggs, it will only hatch from special event eggs or eggs that are found natively from North America. It has also appeared as a tier three raid boss at Pokemon Gyms, but these raid battles featuring Tauros will only occur in North America. If you are in North America you can find Tauros spawning at a boosted rate in the wild near residential areas, universities, and parking lots. Since Tauros does not have any other Pokemon to evolve into, you can use any candies you obtain to power up your Tauros.

FAQ

How Does Tauros evolve?

Tauros has no evolutions in its line. Once you have encountered or obtained a Tauros, you do not need to worry about missing a pre-evolution or a final evolution. It is a standalone normal type Pokemon with no other stages or conditions for evolution.

What animal is Tauros based on?

Tauros is likely based on the constellation of Taurus or simply a bison or bull. It is easy to draw the connection between a Pokemon that looks like a bull with horns to a real life bull. The only difference between a Tauros and a bison/bull is Tauros’s triple split tail and perhaps its color. Everything about Tauros seems to resemble a bison or a bull.

Is Miltank a Female Tauros?

Miltank and Tauros share many similarities and you could say that Miltank is a female Tauros. Both Tauros and Miltank have gender specifications in that Tauros is male only and Miltank is female only. They both have similar base stat totals and they both resemble bovine-like Pokemon.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Wild Bull Pokemon”. While Tauros has fallen out of the top tiers of competitive play, it is by no means a weak Pokemon. It has the capability to deal significant damage while also taking a decent amount of damage itself. Tauros can accomplish a lot for you in battle. Reserve a slot on your team for Tauros if you want a normal type Pokemon that can fulfill an offensive role.
