François St-Laurent

François St-Laurent is a Canadian ice hockey referee, known for his exceptional talent and a distinguished career in officiating, currently active in the National Hockey League (NHL). François St-Laurent, a native of Greenfield Park, QC, spent his early years in the Montreal suburbs. Introduced to skating at the age of 3, his passion for the game ignited when he first donned the big leather pads during his initial year of play. St-Laurent's goaltending journey saw him rise through the Junior levels before hanging up his pads. Simultaneously, at 12, he ventured into the world of officiating, serving as a timekeeper for youth hockey games at the local rink, driven by his love for the game and the desire to be around the rink atmosphere.

At 15, an influential local referee recognized St-Laurent's potential, prompting him to consider transitioning from timekeeping to becoming an on-ice official. Enrolling in the subsequent official clinic, he officially became an on-ice official in the fall of 1992. His adept game management and rapport with hockey participants propelled him through the officiating ranks swiftly. In the spring of 1997, St-Laurent was honored as the "Top Prospect" official in the Province of Quebec. By the summer of 1999, he had reached the QHJML and the AHL as a linesman while concurrently officiating as a referee in lower provincial leagues.

In his second year as a QHJML referee, St-Laurent earned selection to officiate the prestigious Memorial Cup Tournament in Guelph, Ontario, a testament to his prowess as one of the best referees in the league. Following another full season in the QHJML and AHL, St-Laurent's dedication paid off when he received a minor league referee contract from the National Hockey League in the summer of 2003. His debut NHL game took place on November 10, 2005, featuring a matchup between the Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins. St-Laurent's inaugural playoff game occurred on April 13, 2011, when he officiated the game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks.
