Ryan O'Reilly is a Canadian ice hockey professional player and alternate captain for the Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League (NHL). Throughout his career in the NHL, O’Reilly has played for various teams including the Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. O’Reilly is recognized as one of the NHL's premier two-way forwards, earning the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2019.


O’Reilly was selected 33rd overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2009 NHL entry level draft. He began his career with the Avalanche and stayed there for six seasons before he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in 2015, where he spent three seasons and then joined the St. Louis Blues in 2018. O’Reilly won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019 against the Boston Bruins and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for being the most valuable player in the playoffs. O’Reilly joined his current team, the Nashville Predators, on July 1, 2023, after signing a $18 million contract with them.

Ryan O'Reilly grew up playing hockey around his hometown and started his hockey career with the Seaforth Stars in the Ontario Minor Hockey League Association where he progressed to the AAA level, with the Huron-Perth Lakers. O’Reilly stayed with the Lakers for six years before spending a season with the Toronto Jr. Canadians.


He was later selected by the Erie Otters in the 2007 OHL Draft, marking the beginning of his major junior career in hockey. He contributed an impressive 52 points in his rookie season. O’Reilly was named the Otters Rookie of the Year and also earned a nomination for the Bobby Smith Trophy.
