Despite their separation, Carmelo Anthony and his ex-wife La La Anthony have remained united when it comes to parenting their son, Kiyan Anthony. Thanks to their dedication, their 18-year-old son has showed discipline both on and off the court.
Carmelo sat down with Kyan in a one-on-one conversation on "Close Friends Only with Instagram" on YouTube. Social media has become an undeniable source of not only entertainment for people but also a big source of income. However, according to Anthony, he and his wife decided to keep Kiyan off Instagram until he was in middle school.
Alluding to their restriction on Instagram use for his son, the New York Knicks legend revealed how La La had a strict rule against Kiyan using Instagram.

"I would give myself some credit on that. And well, I also would give your mother some credit because she stood tall on you not having Instagram," Carmelo Anthony said. (14:00 onwards) "If it was up to her, you probably would just got Instagram."

The 10x All-Star also credited his son for constantly proving himself to be responsible.
"So, For me, it was, for us, it was just more about, having a conversation and like, okay, now he's proven himself, or, he's responsible, Well let's try this and let's, take it step by step, and just see what happens in once you got it."
"Those little tests, that, you know, you were being tested with, you was passing it with flying colors."
Carmelo Anthony's ex-wife La La lauds Angel Reese's dating advice for Kiyan Anthony
It is hard to avoid dating mistakes at a young age. Thankfully, Kiyan Anthony has great people around him to advise in that department, starting with "sister" Angel Reese.
In October 2024, Kiyan appeared on Reese's "Unapologetically Angel" podcast and got serious dating advice for the WNBA star. Reese warned Kiyan Anthony to be careful when he was in college or the NBA.
"You need to be careful," Reese said. "When you go to the league — this is coming from sis — even when you’re in college, you need to be careful with these women.
"One slip up — you be seeing these stories?" Reese continued. "Ki[yan], don’t do it... Because these women? You’re 17. It’s the women you gotta worry about that’s a lot older than you, too. Be careful. We not playing."
La La Anthony and Reese have a great relationship. The Hollywood actress has been very consistent when it comes to supporting the Sky star, both on and off the court. In November 2024, when La La was asked if she agreed with Reese's suggestion, she said it was the "best advice."
"I think that's the best advice," La La said. "I'm so glad she told him... I love her. She's like family and she's like a big sister. And I think it's good for him to hear it from somebody probably other than his mom."
Kiyan Anthony has committed to Syracuse, Carmelo Anthony's alma mater, for his collegiate basketball career.
