Andrew Symonds was born in Birmingham, England on June 9, 1975. The former Australian all-rounder was part of two World Cup-winning squads and an integral cog of the dominant Aussie side in the early 2000s. Symonds had the option of playing for either England or Australia but he chose the latter. He made his international debut in November 1998 and retired from all forms of cricket in February 2012.

His fans paid tribute to him by observing a minute’s silence in a match between Kent and Surrey during the 2022 County Championship. They also started a Fishing Rod for Roy campaign because of his interest in fishing. Many cricket fans in Australia kept fishing rods and cricket balls outside their houses to commemorate his death.
