The fever is rising high as the twelfth edition of the IPL is just a week away. The season opener is on the 23rd March and will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai. The matchup between Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings is all set to be a highly fancied encounter. Let's take a look at the head to head statistics of KXIP and CSK.
As of the eleventh edition of the IPL held in 2018, the teams have faced each other 20 times. All but one of the matches have been played in the Indian Premier League, with the singular match having been played in 2014-15 Champions League Twenty20. The competition is now defunct. The two sides have also locked horns in the playoff stage of IPL 2014.
Taking an overview of the statistics of the class between these two teams, Chennai Super Kings have a slight edge over the Kings XI Punjab. Out of the twenty encounters between the two sides, CSK have won 12 matches compared to KXIP who have won 8 matches.

The first encounter between the two sides was on 19th April 2008 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium or the Mohali Stadium. It was a run-scoring fest as Chennai Super Kings posted a massive total of 240 runs. KXIP led a brave challenge but just fell short as they racked up 207 on the scoreboard. The last encounter between the two sides was on 21st May 2018 at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, which acts as the second home venue for the Chennai Super Kings. It wasn't as free-scoring as the first encounter but was just as thrilling. KXIP put up a modest total of 153, and CSK came out on top as they successfully chased the score within 19.1 overs.
The two teams will face again for 21st time but the date for the matchup has not been fixed yet. The IPL has released only a partial schedule until now, because of the elections that will be taking place all across the country. Chennai Super Kings will be captained by the hugely successful Mahendra Singh Dhoni while the Kings XI Punjab will be captained by Ravichandran Ashwin, who was a former CSK player.
