Shreyas Iyer is an Indian batter who represents his national team in all formats of international cricket. He also plays for Mumbai’s Ranji team at the domestic level. In the Indian Premier League, Iyer does captaincy for the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise. He plays the role of a middle-order batter and is regarded as one of the most fearless batters in modern-day cricket.

Born in Chembur, Mumbai, Shreyas has always been passionate about cricket since his childhood. His father, Mr. Santosh Iyer recognized his son’s ambition and got him admitted to the famous Shivaji Park Gymkhana, at the early age of 11. His coach, Mr. Pravin Amre trained him.

In the year 2014, He was selected for the under-19 World Cup team. The same year, he got a chance to play for the Trent Bridge Cricket Team, where he scored 297 runs at a fantastic average of 99. It gave him a lot of confidence to perform at the bigger stage. His best Ranji season was 2015-16 when he surprised everyone by scoring 1321 runs at a brilliant average of 73. He was the top scorer that season and also became the 2nd player to score above 1300. Because of his marvelous effort, Mumbai won their 41st Ranji title.

Iyer made his T20i debut against New Zealand and ODI debut against Sri Lanka in the year 2017. On 25 November 2021, He got his Test cap from the legend Sunil Gavaskar and also became the 16th Indian player to score a hundred in the debut test match.

In the World Cup 2023, He scored 530 runs at a marvelous average of 66.25. He also became the 1st Asian player to score above 500 while batting at No.4 in any World Cup edition.

On 23 January 2024, in Hyderabad, Iyer won the best International debut award for session 2021-22 in the BCCI Awards 2024.

Shreyas Iyer, first came in the limelight when he was picked by Delhi Capitals for a hefty sum of INR 2.6 crores in the 2015 season. In the 2018 IPL season, his salary increased to INR 7 crore. He also got the opportunity to Captain the side, after Gautam Gambhir’s resignation in the mid-season. Under his leadership, he took his team to the finals in the 2020 season but his team couldn’t cross the final line.

In the 2022 IPL auction, Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for a hefty sum of INR 12.25 crore. He was also the captain of KKR in that season. But in 2023, he got injured. Nitish Rana replaced him as captain for the remaining season. As of the 2024 IPL season, Shreyas will be the captain with Nitish Rana as vice-captain.
