3 'Ds' are a secret of success for every sportsperson:Padukone
Nagpur, Nov 5 (PTI) Former badminton player Prakash Padukone today said that to excel in any sport the formula of 3 'Ds' -- discipline, dedication and determination is a must.
He was speaking at the SJAN-Raisoni Achievers annual award function jointly organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur and Raisoni Group at a city hotel here.
"To become an outstanding sportsperson one has to make a lot of sacrifices. It is very difficultto maintain a balancebetween games and academics. Therefore players have to be experts in time management as well," said Padukone.
The former badminton player said, "Today there are a lot of opportunities and players only need to grab them. Therewas a time when only cricketers were given importance but now the situation has changed."
He said now even the government has become serious about sports and sportspersons and a lot of private foundations and corporates are coming forward for promotion of sports which is a good sign.
Padukone advised various sports federations to learn something from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) who has popularised the game of cricket amongst the masses through marketing.
"Instead of criticising BCCI, the sports federations should follow it and popularise their game," said Padukone.
Indian woman cricketer Mona Meshram,Vidarbha Ranji cricketer Lalit Yadav, budding chess player Raunak Sadhwani, talented shuttler Malvika Bansod, noted sports organiser Babanrao Taywade were honoured on the occasion
