The ATP Cup is a men’s international tennis tournament between competing nations and the 2022 edition will be held from 1 - 9 January 2022. The third edition of the tournament will take place in Sydney over nine days. The tournament features teams from 16 countries.
While the first edition of the ATP Cup in 2020 saw teams compete in different cities, this year the tournament will be held in one city only, Sydney, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams will be playing at the Ken Rosewall Arena and Sydney Super Dome.
The 16 teams are divided into four groups of four teams each in a round-robin format. The winners of each group will qualify for the semifinals. While the inaugural edition saw the participation of 24 teams, that number was reduced subsequently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ATP Cup plans to revert to the 24 team format in 2023.
The total prize money for the third edition is AUD $14 million. A player that remains undefeated throughout the tournament will earn 500 ATP ranking points while similarly, a doubles player will get 250 points.
