Vera made his official UFC debut on November 15, 2014, losing to Marco Beltrán at UFC 180. He then won against Roman Salazar on August 8, 2015, and faced various opponents over the years with mixed results. He won against fighters like Davey Grant, Ning Guangyou, Brad Pickett, Brian Kelleher, Nohelin Hernandez, Andre Ewell, Sean O'Malley, and Frankie Edgar. He also faced losses against fighters such as John Lineker, Douglas Silva de Andrade, Son Yadong, and José Aldo.

Vera had some fight cancellations and replacements due to various reasons, including injuries and failed drug tests by opponents. He earned Performance of the Night and Fight of the Night bonuses for some of his victories.

Notably, he faced UFC 292’s main event contender Sean O'Malley twice, winning the second fight via first-round TKO. He also won against Dominick Cruz via knockout in the fourth round, earning him another Performance of the Night bonus.
