Rose Namajunas is a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter who competes in the women’s flyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Her amateur mixed martial arts career started in 2010 under Greg Nelson at the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy.

Rose Namajunas made her professional debut on January 5, 2013, against Emily Kagan at Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt. She then went on to sign a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship on December 11, 2013.

Namajunas was born on June 29, 1992, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and was brought up there by her mother, who was a pianist. She graduated from Milwaukee High School of Arts.

Namajunas started her amateur journey in 2010, stacking up four victories and zero losses. Her professional fighting career started with the Invicta Fighting Championship, where she won her first two fights by submission before losing to Tecia Torres at Invicta FC 6: Conen vs. Cyborg by unanimous decision in 2013. After signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Namajunas competed in The Ultimate Fighter season 20 to decide the inaugural strawweight champion. She lost the finale to Carla Esparza on December 12, 2014.

She was born to Lithuanian parents Jolita Frank (mother) and Arturas (father) on June 29, 1992, who had immigrated to the United States of America in September 1991. Her grandfather, Algimantas Andriukonis, was a successful wrestler who won national championships in Lithuania and competitions in the USSR. Rose Namajunas is a regular visitor to Lithuania and speaks in Lithuanian language to her grandparents.

Rose Namajunas’s Career in the UFC

Rose Namajunas has been one of the most successful fighters of her strawweight division in the promotion in recent years. She became a part of The Ultimate Fighter season 20. Namajunas faced Angela Hill at UFC 192 and defeated her by a rear naked choke submission in the very first round of their bout. Namajunas also secured a victory over Paige VanZant in the main event of UFC Fight Night 80 in 2016, She defeated the undefeated Tecia Torres at UFC on Fox 19.

Namajunas first became the champion by defeating Joanna Jędrzejczyk at UFC 217. Namajunas defended her title in her first title defense against Jędrzejczyk in a rematch at UFC 223 via a unanimous decision victory. In her second title defense, she squared off with Jessica Andrade in Brazil in 2019 at UFC 237. Namajunas lost the fight by a knockout, and Andrade became the new strawweight champion.

Her second reign over women’s strawweight title came at UFC 261 when she defeated Zhang Weili by a knockout. Namajunas became the first women fighter in the promotion to regain a UFC title belt. She defended her title against Zhang Weili by defeating her via split decision at UFC 268. Namajunas lost her title to Carla Esparza at UFC 274 by losing via a split decision to her. Namajunas is all set to make her flyweight debut against Manon Fiorot at UFC Fight Night 226 in Paris.

However, Rose Namajunas lost to Manon Fiorot in her last fight on September 2, 2023, via decision. She headlined against Amanda Ribas on March 24, 2024, in Las Vegas, United States, and won the bout via a unanimous decision.
