Appletun is the Apple Nectar Pokémon and is a dual Grass/Dragon type Pokémon known for its unique appearance, delicious skin, and sweet aroma. After spending its life eating apple nectar, Appletun evolves from Applin, which is a large dragon that uses its nectar offensively. Appletun’s National Pokédex number is 842.

Appearance

Appletun stands 0.4 meters tall and is a quadrupedal dragon Pokémon that looks like a giant, walking apple pie. It has a dark green body and a light brown back that looks like pie crust. Two leaves - one green and one red - stick out from the center of its back with a short neck and a rounded snout like an alligator. Half of a hollowed-out red apple covers its head, and eyestalks stick out below its apple helmet while Appletun’s belly is bright yellow.

Behavior

Appletun Appearance

Appletun is a happy, docile creature and it preys on bugs drawn to its sweet apple nectar, which is produced inside its body and excreted onto its skin. Appleton nectar is delicious and the skin on its back is considered a delicacy by the children of Galar.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Appletun’s dual Grass/Dragon typing gives it a good defense against Ground-type moves and a double resistance against Water, Electric, and Grass-type moves. However, Appletun is weak to Poison, Flying, Bug, Dragon, and Fairy-type moves, taking twice the normal damage but takes four times the damage against Ice-type moves.

Shiny Appletun

Shiny Appletun

There aren’t too many differences between a Shiny Appletun and a normal Appletun as it swaps its red apple and red leaf for a green apple and orange leaf. Not only that, the green colour palette on the body becomes a slightly brighter version of the colour. This palette swap makes it easy and tough, at the same time, to spot Shiny Appletun. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Appletun gains a starry animation upon entering battle, so keep an eye out.

Leftovers, Recover, and Leech Seed help give Appletun a powerful recovery tool which makes it tough to beat. Its Thick Fat ability and excellent defensive typing give it strong resistance to multiple threats and offsets an otherwise crippling double weakness to Ice. Apple Acid is a powerful STAB move that helps to build momentum, and Draco Meteor can be used to tackle particularly dangerous threats that Apple Acid isn’t able to handle. A Modest nature boosts Appletun’s Special Attack and hinders its Attack.

Trivia

  1. Appletun’s Gigantamax form is identical to that of Flapple. Appleton and Flapple are the only two Pokémon in the Pokédex to share an identical Gigantamax form.
  2. Appletun is possibly based on a dragon in Greek mythology that guards golden apples in the garden of Hesperides.
  3. Appletun’s name is derived from Appleton, which means “town of apples,” and also the words apple, its favorite food, and ton, referencing its size.

Is Appletun any good?
