Pokedex EntryAzurill's tail is large and bouncy. It is packed full of the nutrients this Pokémon needs to grow. Azurill can be seen bouncing and playing on its big, rubbery tail. Azurill spins its tail as if it were a lasso, then hurls it far. The momentum of the throw sends its body flying, too. Using this unique action, one of these Pokémon managed to hurl itself a record 33 feet.

Appearance

Azurill is a round blue mouse Pokemon which has round, blue ears that are pink inside and has two white spots on its cheeks with a pair of black eyes. Its slender black serrated tail has a disproportionately large blue ball at the end, which Azurill is often depicted to be sitting on. Azurill has two ovular feet near the front of its body.

Behavior

The ball on Azurill’s tail bounces and is full of nutrients needed for its growth but it can also be used as a floating device. Azurill is often seen bouncing and playing on its tail, with the ball on the end behaving like rubber. The tail can also be twisted like a bow. When flicking the tail, Azurill’s body can reach up to 10 meters (33 feet). Although Azurill is usually docile, when angry, Azurill swings its tail in order to hit opponents who are bigger than it. It lives by the edge of bodies of water, hinting at the water typing of Azurill’s evolutions.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Azurill has below average stats with a high HP but with a low attack and special attack stats. Despite its seemingly low stats, the ability Huge Power allows Azurill to reach the highest Attack stat of any baby Pokemon, capping at a maximum of 304.

Before the introduction of fairy-types Azurill was weak to fighting-type moves. But after the introduction of fairy-types, it is now weak to poison and steel-types, immune to ghost and dragon-types, and resistant to bug and dark-type moves.

Best moveset

The ideal moveset for Azurill focuses on dealing heavy damage with moves that cover a wide variety of types, with Double-Edge serving as Azurill’s main STAB (same-type attack bonus) moving and the others serving as type coverage. This moveset also aims to remain useful even after evolution.

How to catch Azurill in Pokemon Go?

As a fairy-type Pokemon, Azurill can be best found at local landmarks, hospitals, shopping malls, churches or the cemetery especially during cloudy weather. Due to its normal-typing, Azurill can be found to appear more or less everywhere, with a boost during partially cloudy weather. Azurill can evolve into Marill by giving it 25 candies and further evolve into Azumarill with an additional 25 candies.

Trivia

  1. Azurill is tied with Togepi and its evolution, Marill for having the lowest base attack of any fairy-type Pokemon, with Marill and Azurill both having the lowest base special attack of any fairy-type Pokemon
  2. Because Azurill's gender ratio does not match the gender ratio of its evolved forms and its evolution is not dependent on gender (being female 75% of the time while Marill and Azumarill are female only 50% of the time), a female Azurill has a one in three chance of evolving into a male Marill prior to Generation VI. This will happen is determined by its personality value and Azurill is the only Pokemon to ever do this
  3. Azurill, along with Wailmer and Kecleon, was the first Generation III Pokemon revealed to the public, in March of 2001
  4. Azurill is the only Pokemon with a base stat total of 190.
  5. Azurill has the lowest base stat total of all normal and fairy-type Pokemon
  6. With the ability, Huge Power, Azurill can reach the highest Attack stat of any baby Pokemon, capping at a maximum of 304
  7. In Japan, Polka dots are known as 水玉 mizutama, literally meaning water balls. This might explain why Azurill is known as the Polka Dot Pokémon and it reflects the way Azurill is indirectly related with water through its evolutions
  8. Azurill has the lowest base stat total of all baby Pokemon
  9. Azurill is the only Pokemon which evolves through friendship whose evolved form evolves again by leveling up
  10. Azurill is the shortest normal-type Pokemon
  11. Azurill appears to be based around the combination of a mouse and a beach ball or possibly a personal flotation device or lifebuoy, with the idea of Azurill storing nutrients in its tail possibly coming from the fat-tailed dunnart, a marsupial with a carrot-shaped tail that stores nutrition in the form of fat for times of scarcity
  12. Azurill is a combination of azure (a shade of blue) or azul (Spanish and Portuguese for blue) and rill (a small river or brook). Its name may also be derived from the name of its evolutions, Marill and Azumarill

FAQs

  4. Friendship in Pokemon can be improved by battling with a Pokemon in your party, by equipping a soothe bell to increase the rate of friendship gain, or by catching an Azurill with a luxury ball.
  5. Does Azurill change gender?
  6. The Azurill gender glitch is a recurring glitch, which first existed in Generation III of the main series Pokemon games and later appeared in Generation IV and Generation V.

Conclusion

Azurill is a unique Pokemon within the Pokemon franchise from its gender glitch to its position as the only Pokemon which evolves through friendship whose evolved form evolves again by leveling up. Introduced in Generation III, after its evolved forms, Azurill is one of the most fascinating baby Pokemon in the series, with the lowest base stat total of any baby Pokemon, as well as the highest potential thanks to the ability, Huge Power allowing Azurill can reach the highest Attack stat of any baby Pokemon.
