All About Calyrex Pokémon

Last Modified Jun 10, 2021 09:21 GMT

Calyrex is the legendary mascot of the second Pokemon Sword and Shield expansion, The Crown Tundra. It is a psychic and grass-type Pokemon with two forms which each features Calyrex riding a different steed. Believed to be able to telepathically communicate with humans, Calyrex is likely one of the smartest Pokemon introduced into the game. Known in Galar as the "King of Bountiful Harvests", Calyrex ruled over ancient Galar as a merciful king, a role very uncommon for other Pokemon even when considering other legendaries.

Appearance of Calyrex

Calyrex is a bipedal Pokemon resembling a hare. It has disproportionately long legs which are about twice the length of its torso and four protrusions growing from it's head in order to support a bud-like green sphere which is much larger than its head which glows when it’s powers are activated. Calyrex also has a series of dark green spheres wrapped around its neck with triangular light blue patterns on them and light blue wings. In its Ice/Shadow Rider form, Calyrex is portrayed with a white and green cape grown from the back of its arms while riding either steed.

Behavior of Calyrex

Calyrex is known as a merciful ruler that ruled the Galar region in ancient times, with its ability to affect plant growth. Calyrex is one of the most intelligent Pokemon with its ability to see the past, present, and future when at full power. Calyrex can also control human bodies and communicate telepathically with humans for communication. Known for its healing, Calyrex will show no mercy to its opponents, but it will heal them when the fighting is done.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Calyrex is a well-rounded Pokemon in terms of its stats, with no stats sticking out above the others. Calyrex is psych and grass-type Pokemon. For this reason, Calyrex is weak against dark, ghost, flying, poison, fire, bug, and ice-type attacks and is resistant to fighting, psychic, ground, water, grass, and electric-type moves.

Shiny Calyrex

Calyrex is shiny-locked in-game, which means there is no legitimate way to get a Shiny Calyrex.

Calyrex Forms

Calyrex has two forms: Ice Rider Calyrex and Shadow Rider Calyrex. Both of the two Calyrex forms require either Glastrier or Spectrier to serve as the steeds, as well as the Reigns of Unity. These two forms cannot exist at the same time, as the game will reject the second fusion and will not allow the fused form to be traded. Each of the Calyrex forms has a unique move, with Ice Rider Calyrex learning Glacial Lance and Shadow Rider Calyrex learning Astral Barrage. Once either Glastrier or Spectrier has been fused, they will be removed from your party until unfused.

Best moveset

Calyrex is not very impressive on its own in terms of legendaries, so fusing it is best for battle. For this reason, movesets should be determined in terms of which form you want to use, since Calyrex on its own is not very effective for combat.

Calyrex is capable of having completely different stats in each form depending on the play style of its trainer, making this specific legendary one to look out for within the Crown Tundra Expansion.
